Dear Precious Friends in the Homeland:
Greetings in that Name that is above every name: Jesus!
My, what a wonderful exciting month! First, I want to say that ever since I was in high school I had dreamed of visiting that famous ancient city of the Aztec Indians at Machu Picchu, Peru, It was built around 1430 A.D and is around 8,000 above sea level and often called the “Lost City of the Incas. But as the years passed my dreams dimmed because of not being able to afford it and age creeping up on me…Then all of a sudden, without even planning it, an unexpected door opened when Brother and Sister Lewis invited us to be their interpreters and paid our way to the place of their dreams and our dreams…What an awesome experience! To make the climb I was given super strength and I know that was a precious present from our Lord.
I had settled in my mind that if I could just stand at the foot of the mountain at my age, I would feel a dream come true. But as we decided to start climbing, it was like God pushing me up the mountain…I could not even believe I was doing it, let alone Brother Alvear…it was just like I was young again…I cannot tell you what I felt looking back down the mountain…seeing the stone city of the bygone Inca Indians….such a sight to behold…
I stood there at the top looking over the valleys and hills and suddenly the Lord brought to my mind something special …this is like your journey to my City I heard Him whisper to my heart…yes, climbing we had to stop to rest quite a bit and to get some air, but we climbed on…looking at the majestic sight, I forgot my aches and pains…
All of a sudden I knew what heaven would be like…all earthly trials would vanish, the pain, the hurts, will all be forgotten as we look into the city that God has prepared for the called, chosen and faithful… I know going to Machu Picchu was just a fleshly dream…It was somewhere I had always wanted to go…I love history… Yet there is another city we dream about and that is the City of Gold…where our Jesus lives and reigns…Oh the passion I feel for that place!
We arrived back on Friday from our wonderful trip and on Saturday we headed for the city of Itobi for special services. Some of the very first people I won to the Lord were present in that service. It was so great to see them, their children and grandchildren most all whom were serving the Lord. On Sunday we were at our son Raul Jr’s special service in Campinas and witnessed seven new souls being baptized in Jesus name.
On Tuesday night we traveled by plane to the far northern state of Maranhao and were in service in Sao Luiz with pastor Macariero and on Wednesday, we, along with Brother and Sister Lewis, drove in a rented car on to our son Arlei’s special services. We had an awesome time, and to top it off we dedicated one of the jungle churches and saw the foundation of another one in another area where he is building. My, how God is blessing in the state of Maranhao. We are thrilled beyond words to see what God is doing in that area . We want to say special thanks to Bro Arlie Rowley and the church at Deville, LA for their offering on the church building there.
We deeply want to thank all those that have helped in the jungle work and the work in general. Thanks to your help we were able to leave money with our son to buy a milk cow to supply milk for them and money for seed to plant rice, beans and cassava. Poverty is so great there, yet there is a great hunger for the gospel also. If anyone would feel to help these poor forgotten people please earmark your offering for the jungle area. They desperately need clothing and other things.
Before going to Machu Picchu we flew to the state of Ceara to the “Dream City” for their special services and we enjoyed seeing the progress of the work there also. We also rented a car and drove to the state of Minas Gerais for their convention and got to see some awesome folks that are working full speed ahead.
Time has come for us to finance another trip to Paraguay and I would like to ask your help on this project. We are trying to raise 800 dollars for the trip, so if by chance God speaks to you please help us send a worker there to visit the folks in that country and encourage them. We would like to thank Brother and Sister Lewis for helping us in so many ways and each one of you that give so the needs can be met. On this trip Brother Alvear ordained two new workers (preachers). It is so breathtaking to see how God is moving all over this vast land.
Thank each of you for helping us reach more souls in 2009 and as we enter the New Year we pledge to do all we can once again. Let’s pray that this New Year will be our best year for reaching the lost.
