Both the Hebrew (Nebrah), and Greek (Proph) used for prophetess means (female preacher). (See Young's Concordance, Pg. 780.)

The word "Prophet" means a public expounder.

The word "Prophesy" means to speak forth, or flow forth. The Bible says in 1 Cor. 14:3, "But he that prophesieth speaketh unto MEN to edification, and exhortation and comfort."

The dictionary says, prophesy is "to speak under divine inspiration...to preach."

Therefore we learn from the original translation, from the Bible interpretation, and from the dictionary, that to prophesy means more than to tell the future, but it is to speak publicly about the past, present, or future. It is to preach under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

And I'm well aware of Gordon Fee & Bart Ehrman's angle of I Cor. 14:34....& it's entirely speculative at the end of the day! Daniel Wallace addresses these issues in Strobel's, "The Case for the Real Christ." In sum, EVERY [over 5,000] Greek manuscript that we have possess the verse! Hmmmmmmmmm???? Think I'll stick w/ the literal texts & let you have Gordon Fee! The verse remains applicable & has nothing to do w/ "husbands & wives"....& no translation adopts such a rendering of vs. 34...try again!

Can't remember what else you said, but if you would requote it, I'd be more than happy to deal w/ these issues as time allows. At any rate, still waiting on your biblical example of a NT "woman expositor/preacher":_____________?

The Council of Nicea in 325 made it clear that women were no longer to be ordained along with the clergy but were to remain amongst the laity. Many church councils followed..The councilf Orange..each dealing at some time with women...sad church councils removed godly women...

Judgment Day

Today is judgment day for me
I never knew it would have to be
We stand more than a million souls
That has never heard of thee.

With trembling hands and weeping voices
We look to one upon a throne
Why is it we have never known?

Gathering riches and wealth here below
