My grandmother God rest soul would not use sweetmilk for her cornbread.
What I would give for a taste of her tomato gravy, and cathead bisquits.
She was an old school cook.

Neither will I - if I do not have buttermilk and sour cream, I do not make cornbread. Buttermilk has many other uses, though it will tenderize chicken if you soak it before you cook the chicken.

My grandmother has been dead for several yrs.now but she cooked like she was feeding an army,I miss her and her cooking being young and not having wisdom I gave her a hard time,I wish I could redo that.

I don't make it often but my children love it. My Grandmother taught me how to make it, before she passed away.
