My 21 year old is in a sponsored unit that competes as far away as Ft. Hood. He has a VERY expensive gun and LOTS of gear! Seems to really like it.

The latest rage at their little country school is shooting "paper hornets" off rubber bands at one another.
This is of course a non-sanctioned activity as far as the teachers are concerned...but, like when I was a lad, it goes on.
Anyway, after abserving them making up supplies of ammunition in the evenings, preparing for the next day's battles, my mind drifted back to the days of my childhood, and of battles I fought and won in that very same arena.
I was an innovative kid, and always looked for ways to get the edge on the competition. This led to some pretty intensive research and development which in turn catapulted me into superpower status in the paper hornet wars.
So, desiring to be a good father, I sat down with my boys and had a serious conversation with them.
I asked them if they were fully aware of the fact that they were going to be in trouble with their teachers if they got caught shooting paper hornets...they affirmed that they were indeed aware.
I then asked them, in all honesty, if they planned to go ahead shooting them and take their chances...again, an affirmative answer.
My next question was, "Are you prepared to accept the consequences like men and not whine if you get nailed?"
They assured me that they were.
So, having cleared the preliminaries, I sat down with them to show them how to make the best paper hornets known to man, with several innovative features that will raise whelps of maximum size upon impact.
I know a little something about boys, and one of the things I know is that they are going to do these things. So, my philosophy is, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.
Anyway, I showed them how to embed bb's in their paper hornets and wrap them with duct tape so that they can demolish the competiton.
Colton came home yesterday with glowing reports of glorious victories and total playground domination...
He says his buddy's all think I'm cool.

Clearly, this is a very necessary fatherly mentoring for every young man. But God forbid any of the liberal feminazi catch up with you. You're not nearly as UC as I thought.

Ah, yes, much like the official policy of the New York State Department of Health "They're going to do it anyway, so we might as well make it safe for them." Of course, New York State calls it "harm risk reduction."
If the behavior in question is against the school rules and is not behavior commanded/encouraged in scripture, why would any Christian parent encourage such behavior?
I would have expected your post from someone in the Roman Catholic, Episcopal, United Methodist, or other liberal church.
Moral relativism is alive and well on AFF!

Light up brother Chan, we already have too much femininizing of boys in this culture.

CoonCob, if you ever put on that Boys' Conference, you can have break out day sessions covering topics just such as this one.

It's all that moral relativism being promoted in American society today (that started in the 1960s as "situational ethics").

I guess my question is this, when those same authorities that say no paper hornets say no personal faith or no expression of free thought or ideas, what will you tell your children then? I know it is hypothetical but with the recent IMUS debacle and the subsequent cries from Jesse and Al for a broader look at what is and isn't acceptable public speech I feel that we are rapidly approaching the day when hypothesis becomes proof!
|
Schools do not have the constitutional authority to deny a student's right to exercise his personal faith or deny a student's right to free thought or ideas. Any such prohibition would be unlawful and children should obey the law to the extent that such law does not violate God's law. By the way, I'm not sure it is so hypothetical.

Our kids are not "allowed" to shoot paper hornets with a rubber band but they grow up to shoot each other with guns.

There is no connection or correlation between these.

They are not allowed to settle their disputes with fisticuffs and become best friends after so every dispute becomes final, as in death, and no future friendship is even possible.

Where does the Bible teach us to settle disputes with our fists?

WE have destroyed the perspective or our youth by robbing them of the normal processes that allow them to become men and women with balance! Our mountain out of molehill mentality is destroying our kids!

Normal processes? I don't see how you can call sin "normal processes." I agree, though, that American society (particularly government indoctrination centers, a.k.a. public schools) has been trying to erase the line between male and female and, in the process, feminize the males.

So, teaching kids to violate rules is teaching proper masculinity? Sorry, I don't see it. What I see is that it only cements moral relativity. I do agree that there is too much feminizing of boys in American culture (not that there is any amount of feminizing that is appropriate).

Isn't that the truth, in my neighborhood we would use slingshots and china berries. We would have war for days, and you better not forget and casually walk out of the house. There was no mercy. We didn't need video games we spend the summers outdoors, the whole community was our playground. Ride our bikes to the lake to swim, just don't get caught.

Of course, you are right, in today's culture CS could easily be locked up for such criminal behavior.
