I know most scripture when talking about fire, fire represents tribulation.I'm not sure about the lake of fire though.Math.3 10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.(tribulation)
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with firetribulation)
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (tribulation)
Rev.003:018I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire,(tribulation) that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Rev.011:005And if any man will hurt them, fire (tribulation) proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed
Mark9:9:47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell firetribulation)
( Everyone is salted with the fire or tribulation of hell now on earth) 9:48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire (Tribulation) is not quenched. 9:49 For every one shall be salted with fire,(tribulation) and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt
9:50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

I think we can say hell is the realm of the dead where ever they are. So lets talk first about hell here, now on earth, like the devil walking the face of the earth seeking whom he may devour.
2 Peter 002:004For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment
(They are in hell walking the earth)1 Peter005:008Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about,(here on earth, in hell,) seeking whom he may devour
(Now think it is safe to say these unclean spirits are devils).Math.12: 43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.(here on earth, in hell,)
Math.8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick.
Now I think it is safe to say these spirits are in some kind of torment when not in peoples bodies because they walk about seeking rest a find none.
The way I got it figured is. When spirits comes out of our body, they no longer have protection from the cold, the winters and heat, the sun. Our body gives protection to spirits. That's why the seek to possess bodies

The word ever, everlasting, eternal, don't mean without an end, it means to continue for a period of time or an age.I believe the unsaved soul goes to hell and is in torement until the judgement and then they come from hell and are judged and cast in the lake of fire that is the second death or death of the soul.
What I'm saying is after death in this body we go to Abraham's bosom or hell. These places is for a period of time until the judgment and then everyone that is not found written in the book of life is cast into the lake of fire, that is the second death, death means to cease to exist
Luke 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Rev.020:012And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
020:013And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 020:014And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.(cease to exist)
020:015And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Heb.009:027And as it is appointed unto men once to die,(cease to exist) (In the flesh) but after this the judgment
Rev.002:011He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death (cease to exist)
James005:020Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death,(cease to exist) and shall hide a multitude of sins
Rom.006:021What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.(cease to exist) 006:022But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
006:023For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Math.10 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy(cease to exist) both soul and body in hell.
Luke20:34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die(cease to exist)any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection
