OK I just saw where Keith said 60 miles. I might rent a car when I fly to Reno.

Reno is about an hour's drive from Tahoe. Definitely worth the drive down. I like to drive around the entire lake and stop at places along the way. That's a good day's jaunt. Take ur camera! On the south shore you can go on boat cruises on the lake itself if you want. If you ski or snowboard there are tons of ski resorts all over the area.

I will certainly keep that in mind come February... That is if I can be pulled away from the buffets in Reno.
