Why trust the Democrats on Economic issues?

The polls and news show that people trust the Democrats on the economy more than the Republicans.

I've asked so many people and they say they don't know why.

Aside from the "give me welfare mentality", what are the other reasons? Anyone know?

Ferd? Is it a left over thought from LBJ?

Why do they trust the Dems?

Perhaps it is because the Republicans have lied & used people so much?

I am not a Dem BTW.

I think both choices are poor!

Re: Why trust the Democrats on Economic issues?

I think in the general public's eye they think that Democrats are for the people and the Republicans are for the rich.

To me Democrats are for bigger government and Republicans are for less government.

Pressing in 1980, the polls showed that republicans were trusted more on the economy.

in 1992 we were in a very mild recession. everyone thought GHWB was a great president but the economy turned and he blinked. Bill Clinton ran on the economy. Americans decided to trust democrats on the economy.

The economy turned positive under BC. in 2000 the economy turned again but the country was divided right down the middle with half loving him and half hating him.

GWB won but just barely as we all know. The last 8 years have seen some very difficult economic waters and now we are in a serious mess with a republican in the white house....

the people now trust democrats.

The bottom line here is that what ever party is in the white house, if there is an economic down turn, the American public will "trust" the other party to fix it. The thought is this team got us into this, lets let the other team get us out.

I read that when policy changes it takes until the next presidency to realize the results. Thus, Clinton was enjoying the changes from Reagan and Bush is realizing the results from Clinton.

Would that be correct?

I've heard that too and it makes sense to me.

Or Kennedy?

I come from a family of Dem.s and I can not help to think they are stuck in the 60's or even further back to FDR and are entirely blind to the changes the dems have gone through over the last 40 or so years.

Yes, my husband was telling me that the Democratic party was in much better shape under Kennedy and LBJ. Many of the "old school" cling to that, but it has really, really changed from those days.
