JT, give it up. They insist on selectively picking and choosing scriptures from the OT willy nilly with no rhyme or reason and saying it 's normative for us today. You can't reason with the unreasonable. It's like trying to argue with a person who believes the earth is flat and that NASA faked the moon landing.

Hey Ferd and DT, what kind of shoes are you wearing? What style and color? Just curious.

some things should just be common sense, it is stupid to mark up your body and stick pins in it everywhere, how eloquent is that, lol

In my last post I just asked why you pick one verse out and ignore all the others. And again it is all under the OT old covenant. So your original response (posting the verse) was also a classic response given by UC OTP's. Pick a verse any verse and make it fit your idiology. By the way if my comments were not worth your time then why did you respond to me?

Also it seems that you are a guy that would argue if white is a color or just that absence of color. I respect you and your posts cause they are your opinion, however opinions and facts are not equal all the time. And your assement of tattoos could be right but based on your arguement (the bible verse) it is a weak arguement.
JTULLOCK This bring back to mind what someone wrote in my year book in 9th grade.

Hmm, my post disappeared.

Oh well, here it is again.

Stupid is relative, DT. Your "stupid" is another person's "style". So, this argument doesn't hold water with many people.

I run into this all the time with my kids, I ask them "You're going out looking like that?" To me, it's sloppy - to them, it's style.

So, the tatooing thing is the same way - we may think it's stupid, but others think it's stylish and defining.

yes! my point exactly. it's personal preferene and paul made clear how we're to handle that sort of thing. i prefer to wear chuck taylors of all colors and styles over black loafers with tassles (like DT). i wouldn't be caught dead with tassles on my shoes. but DT likes them, and that's completely ok with me. I'm not going to say they're 'stupid' or 'dumb'. they're just not my style. and he problably wouldn't preach in chuck's and cargo shorts like i do. but that's ok too. we all dress and minister and live according to our context. and in doing so respect each other's preferences and fellowship around Christ. that's the unity of the brethren that Paul referred to.

nobody can make a theological argument in the nt against tattoos. it just can't be done. it's an issue of personal preference and like everything in life the principles of modesty, propriety, and respect apply to tattoos. Some don't like them and are welcome to not like them and to refrain from having them. Others like them and are welcome to like them and to not abstain.
