U - P - c

U P c

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

" U P "

Lovers of the English Language might enjoy this one.
How in the world do non-natives ever learn all the nuances
of the English Language ?

There is a two letter word that perhaps has more meanings
than any other two letter word,
and that word is “UP”.

It is easy to understand UP,
meaning toward the sky or the top of the list,
BUT when we awaken UP in the morning,
Why Do We Wake UP ?

At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ?

Why do we speak UP ?

Why are the candidates UP for election ?

Why is it UP to the secretary
to write UP the report ?

Why do we call UP our friends ?

Why do we open UP the shades
to brighten UP a room ?

Why do the women polish UP the silver ?

Why do we warm UP the leftovers
and clean UP the kitchen ?

Why do we lock UP the house
and fix UP the car ?

At other times this little two letter word UP has special meanings.
People stir UP trouble,
Line UP for tickets,
Think UP excuses,
Work UP an appetite,
and Tidy UP the place.

To be dressed is one thing
but to be Dressed UP is special

This UP is really confusing;
A drain must be opened UP
because It is stopped UP.

A man opens Up a store in the morning
and then closes UP the same store at night.

We all seem to be really mixed UP
about UP !

To be more knowledgeable about the proper uses of the word UP,
Please look UP
the word UP
UP in the dictionary.

In the desk sized dictionary UP
takes UP one forth of a page
and
That really adds UP.

If you are UP to it,
you might try building UP your own list
of the many ways UP is used.
It will probably take UP a lot of your time.

Take UP the time
and
if you don’t give UP,
you may wind UP
with a hundred UPs or more.

When it threatens to rain, we all say that it is clouding UP.

When the sun comes out again we all say it is clearing UP.

When it does rain, we say it wets up the earth.

When it does not rain then things dry UP.

One could go on and on about UP
but I will wrap things UP for now
because my time is UP,
so I will begin to taper off and shut UP.

Oh,
One More Thing that I have learned thru my aged years

Listen UP
and
I will tell each of you

What is the very first you do each and every morning ?

And

What is the very last thing you do each and every night ?

U

P

c
