It was an awesome experience! Not only the Great Wall, but Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City, Tianamen Square, Terracotta Warriors, Xi'an wall, drum tower, bell tower, etc....all during the Olympics. We saw athletes everywhere...and every once in a while, we would find an English speaking person as well....a delight!

Re: Pics from China
Well, since we were half way around the world, we decided to spend a couple of days in Beijing. We hired an English speaking driver who knew the city and how to get us where we wanted to go. So, we got to see all the major historical sites in Beijing. It was a whirlwind but we did get to cruise around the Bird's nest and Water Cube, but didn't have time to take in any events! Tickets were plentiful at good prices, but our time was at a premium.
Actually, of all mission trips I have taken, this one had more sight seeing than any of the others due to the venues we were in. Xi'an, where the classes were held was a treat in itself since it was the old capital of China. So much history, so little time!

That is the thing about traveling overseas, so much to do and to see but time is limited-I can relate!

Our driver/interpreter was the only one who could tell us. He would let us know if it was Chinese, which most of it was, or what the specialty they had was. Without an interpreter, you're pretty clueless. It was worth every penny we paid him. We hired him by the day, which included all our transportation and to and from the airport. If anyone is going to Beijing, I would recommend him. (Anton) He has a nice car and his prices are very reasonable!
