On the first batch of jars that were put in the boiling pot of water, one broke. So when the time was up, we took all the other jars out, and I did what every other non-canning person would do....I dumped the contents of the boiling pot of water in the sink.

Yes, it clogged up. And yes, I immediately reached my hand in to unclog the drain. No, I wasn't thinking about 'boiling hot' water.

Although my hand was in there long enough to unclog the drain, amazingly it didn't burn...but I'm positive it was from all the 'Jesus!', 'Jesus!', 'Jesus!'s I uttered.

The lesson was not a total wash...I learned how NOT to can...and my sister learned how to react in dire consequences.

Oh Mrs.. that is too funny. I don't "can" my salsa. In fact, it is more like pico de gallo that salsa. But is sure is good and not a calorie in it! :-) In fact, I personally use cucumbers rather than chips for dipping. Now, dear hubby has to have chips.

Just chop about 10 - 12 Roma tomatoes, 2 - 4 cloves of garlic, one (or half of one) jalapeno pepper, onion, 1 anaheim pepper, cilantro and lime juice. I make ours kind of chunky - that's how we like it. I just got a Pampered Chef food chopper and love it - that's what I used to chop everything up. He will truly be appreciative when he gets home from work.

Sweet Pea,
that sounds really good. I have a question tho. What's an anaheim pepper??

I love my Pampered Chef food chopper!!! Want to hear a trick I learned regarding it? If it begins to get a little dull, just chop up a bunch of ice cubes. For some reason, that sharpens the blades again. I've tried it and it really does work.

I think you've talked me into going to the kitchen now and getting some chips and salsa for lunch. I do like the idea of using cucumbers tho!! Unfortunately we don't have any right now. But Justin will like that too. He LOVES cucumbers!!

We're so glad you're here! Look at what you've added to us already

The boys are home from school. Walt is home from work. And I have no daycare kids because no one is working. Whoooooha!!

Walt has not even tried to shovel this time. , Jesus!!
My boys have joined up with the neighbor boys and the whole gang is going door to door down the road offering to shovel people's sidewalks for them. They're hoping that some people will offer them a little $$'s, but they'll do their walks whether they do or not. Even if they make a little money, by the time they split it six ways, they won't have much. It's more for the fun, ya know.
Oh, do tell. Was he wanting to shovel snow for you? LOL!

I have never been a big salsa eater...but I have to share my most FAVORITE in the whole, wide world!

Harry and David's Pepper & Onion relish. It's a sweet salsa. It's AWESOME mixed with cream cheese for a chip dip!!! We also love putting a bit on our scrambled eggs...YUM!

Night before last, our fire department got called at 2:00 am to a house fire. The cardiologist and the vascular surgeon and our family doctor have all told Walt he could NOT go to another fire call. (he's the assistant chief here in our town, but it's a volunteer position). He could stay on the department, but only to do paperwork and maybe to run the radio at the station occasionally.

So what does he do when the house fire call comes in? He jumps up, gets dressed and promises he will only run the radio. When he finally gets home at 7:00 am, I ask if he stayed at the station all night. And he sheepishly tells me that he did go to the scene. But only to take out coffee and water for the guys. And to give some technical advice. PLEASE!!!! Does he think I'm stupid?? That's one step away from grabbing a hose and running inside!!!

And then, to make matters worse, he decides later in the day that he should shovel the sidewalk going to our back garage!!! Another thing all of the doctors have given strict orders he is NEVER to do!!!!

Well, now he's "not feeling really good". DUH!!!!!!!

and on top of that, he took Monday off work because he was too tired from the fire call to go in. And he took today off because they predicted a major snowstorm (which didn't get here until late this afternoon/early evening). And now he's not going in tomorrow because of the Level 2 snow emergency. Good grief!! What're we supposed to pay bills with???

But see I can't say anything, because I don't want to upset him and cause his blood pressure to go up.

So all I can do is pray!!! Help me pray, will you? This is the man who came so close to death in May and then God restored him. But he's got to do his part now. I need him!! I want him around to help raise our boys! Pray that he gets his head on straight. I know that sounds funny, but I'm serious. If he keeps doing stupid stuff like he's done, I'm afraid we'll lose him this time.

Thanks so much!!!! This is by far, the best thread on this whole forum I just love you all!!
Oh wow Margie...sounds like you've got a stubborn one on your hands!

We'll pray with you...the Lord will surely provide!

ROFL!!!! Nope, nothing like that, Renda!!

Actually, I was living here in Ohio and decided to ride Greyhound up to visit my friend who lived in Michigan (NOT something I will ever do again - no buses for me, thank you!!!) Anyhow, I was scheduled to stay for 2 nights. The morning I was to leave for home, we got up and the Blizzard of '78 had hit full force!!

Mike was just a teen (I was in my early 20's). He and his family attended the church that my friend also went to. So I met him there.

When the blizzard hit, the bus wasn't running for a few days. By the time it was running again, I had decided I liked it there and had found a job. So I just went home, got my stuff and moved there.

Mike actually 'went with' the daughter of my friend that I had gone there to visit. They were an item for quite a long time. And then when my brother came up to visit me and stay with me for a few months, he and Mike became good friends. So he spent alot of time hanging out at my apartment with Thunder (my brother).

Mike's a great guy. It's been nice re-connecting with him on the forums (I was going to say "here", but that's not exactly true, is it?)

Just checking in - I spent most of the day running errands. I put on a big pot of homemade vegetable soup, and ran out the door. I left the hubby home to look after the soup, he is not feeling well. I would appreciate prayer for him, we had a special weekend planned this weekend. IF he does not perk up we will have to cancel it. Boo HOoo. We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and half bath. I went on a quest to find a vessel sink for the half bath!!!! I found one at Tuesday Mornings for $99. If you have been shopping for them you would know that is dirt cheap!!!!!
We are planning a ladies tea at our church - It is an annual Mother's Memorial Fund raiser. It is always very elegant. I have been asked to oversee the decorations and do a table this year. I love doing this kind of thing but I get nervous about making it just so!!!!! Anyway, the table I am doing I will use my china- which is beige and silver. So I am going with a Chrystal, beige and silver theme. I picked up some silver material and I am going to make a runner out of it. We will see. I am not the greatest when it come to needle and thread. Well got to get back and check on the soup, make cornbread and make sure my honey is doing OK.

Father, we ask you to touch Bluebyou's husband today. Heal whatever is ailing him and make him completely whole.

And, Lord, bless this tea that they are doing as a fund raiser. Use it not only to raise money, but also to reach souls.

In Your holy name we ask these things,
Amen
