I remember this one time when we were kids in the Apostolic Church of Jesus, a small Oneness organization in CO and NM, which believed in Jesus name baptism but believed the Holy Spirit was imparted during or as a result of that baptism, and we didn't have all the hootin' and hollarin' that occured in the UPC...although we joined up later.

I remember for one of our conventions, we rented Brother Maurice Gordon's downtown palace to conduct our services. Knowing that we didn't have the Holy Ghost like THEY believed, one guy, who was notorious for going into the Catholic church with a tambourine running the isles, decided he would show us what the Holy Ghost really was.

He came in and was very loud in his worship to the point of disrupting the service and then the altar call.

My mom told me to not look at him and not pay attention to him because if what he had was the least bit authentic, then we need not judge or make fun of.

Same thing here...

I would have to dig up my posts to say exactly what I said... but my feeling has been that folks may have been getting "blessings" in spite of the hype, but I saw no evidence for the wildly heralded "miracles" and "resurrections".

"Religious circus" - I like that.

Seriously... while I am not an advocate for total abandon shockamoo, this took "flippin out" to a whole new level! He took the "Gold" in that circus.

Brother Epley...TELL THE TRUTH! There was no "BAM" baptism and you know it!
It was 'Sheeka BOOM BAM!' Baptism .(Wasn't he an idiot? How could ANYONE be so stupid, or better yet, STOOPID?)

The really funny thing in the Charisma article was the fact that they brought down John Arnott from the Toronto Airport mess to lay hands on this guy and "Cover" him! (with WHAT???!!!!)

I can tell you what the problem with the charismatic movement is, in fact THEY can tell you what it is, the absence of solid Bible Doctrine and Moral Absolutes!

Last I heard though Mr Bentley is headed up to YOUR neck of the woods, Kentucky, so get out the word! Sheeka Boom Bam is coming YOUR way !

BAM!

Re: Thoughts on Todd Bentley and Lakeland

Some people would view a good old garden variety Sunday Night UPC/Apostolic service and say the exact same things about women shouting their hair down in a semi-conscious state and men stomping and running and dancing about as though in a hunting ritual before they go out and kill something.

We have this guy who flies around the church with no abandon, and if someone were to step out in front of him and he were to hit them full bore, there would no doubt be a funeral in a few days in that same church...his, if it just happened to be me.

...I'm just saying.

How would you like it if the entire apostolic-pentecostal movement were to be summarized through the actions and ministry of someone who constantly berated people, who used cursewords in the pulpit, stumbled around pretending to be drunk in the spirit, calling people fags and stupid, and saying that because Wal-Mart sells jewlery, they are a tool of a pagan devil?

Nice.

Just disagree and leave it alone. You are not...and none of us are totally above contempt individually or collectively.

I would say this if you were hammering the preacher I mentioned above too....if you knew him by name of course, which you don't and it proves I am not supporting or making excuses or holding any individual in contempt!!!!!!!

MY Response

Sounds like D.C. Moody to me.... and that WOULD be dreadfull! Absolutely dreadful, but well deserved if the voices raised in objection to that kind of ........ were as silent as the voices which cautiously hemmed and hawed about wether this nonsense was of God until it was TOO bizarre to be "cute" anymore.

And no I am not without contempt, I think one of the wonderful attributes I picked up on the Apostolic Friends Forum last week was... what was it again? Oh, Yeah!..."Victim of Regurgitation" (And maybe from the aforementioned DCM one never knows anymore one never knows....) But you gotta love the Walmart tool of the devil deal! That sounds for all the world like DC Moody, am I close???? Did you ever hear his take on how God has shown him the "Spirit of Zen that not only controls the Chicago Bulls BASEBALL team, but also controls the way we DRIVE (!?!?!?!) No all these guys like that are loons Oneness or trinitarian, the comment about the weakness of the Charismatic movement being DIRECTLY attributable to THEM and Charisma Magazine in particular, and the John Arnott estimation? I make NO apology there! False as false can be. ALMOST as fruity as his wife "I MISS JESUS" Carol... (Said in prophesy as being the voice of the Holy Ghost explaining why he was crying....it had been almost 2,000 years since he had been sent down from heaven as Jesus was taken up, and he hadn't seen him for so LONG that it broke his heart!)

Sorry if you dont agree but this whole movement that eats this stuff up is nuts! Oneness Trinitarian, Binatarian, if you leave your spiritual discernment and Bible at the door you deserve EXACTLY what you get!

Or so says the "Victim of Regurgitation"

Re: Thoughts on Todd Bentley and Lakeland

I agree with the author of the article on the fact that too many Christians are simply gullible. They are either too lazy or too apathetic to "filter things through the word of God". My personal sense is that many in the church today are just satisfied too take whatever comes down the road and accept it, embrace it and defend it.

Pentecost ALWAYS has a purpose. It's just not some theatrical display that excites the masses and gets everyone worked up. That's why I never bought the dog barking and "carpet time" revival in Toronto. That's why I run from false prophets that believe in gold dust and gold teeth fillings. That's not the purpose of Pentecost. The purpose of Pentecost is to en power believers to be an effective witness to the lost.
