Right. I have seen women and men in the bagpipe bands, wearing the same garment, but I still had no problem identifying who was male and who wasn't. The skirt just didn't make a difference.
Heavenlyone,
Our men wear robes when we have dramas to depict bible times BUT that is not our normal attire just like the bag pipe players. they don't wear that unless it's for a certain ceremonial purpose
HO, If you've read my statements, I've always said it was according to culture UNLESS culture goes against the word of God. There are those who imigrate here from different parts of the world but after a couple of generations they acclamate to western culture. In our culture, a Man does not wear a dress or skirt ( unless there is a scottish parade or something ceremonial). Let's not get the rest of the world in this or what they did 500 years ago. powered wiges and the revolution are no longer on the table. that's not affecting the church of today or the culture demise that we are seeing. That's where my concern lies.
HO, I've followed the black church for years. I go the Gospel music convention every year. to this day, there dress code rule is " no Pants". They are very traditional on this topic at least at church although some have loosened up, so i don't think this has been a white issue only
I know African men who don't wear pants. They wear a robe-like garment and hat according to their culture. I'm not speaking of Americans in general, but of white America. Black folks in Africa doesn't dress like blacks in America......except in America. The same with others of a different nationality who haven't Americanized themselves already, but the dress culture America has is pretty white in origin. It was the whites who came to this country first. We didn't adapt to dressing like the Indians, did we?
But, if you want to throw out what we did 500 years ago, then how about we talk about 2008, which is where we live. Today, in 2008, women's apparel includes pants in American culture.

Sherri , Can a Man be modest in a skirt ? would you be honest and admit that it would really be acceptable to you if the men in your church started wearing "MODEST" Dresses and the women all wore the pants ?
Men were modestly wearing skirts, even in battle, for thousands of years before deciding to be different, even being considered immodest, by bifurcating their garments about 400 years ago.

It's all about BALANCE and MODESTY. Pants can be modest or immodest on a man or a woman. It's the condition of the heart that determines what you will wear and if you are modest or not. Your true motives will show in what you wear, and how you present yourself.
I've seen lots of immodesty on the women who wear the traditional 'holiness' attire and in the pulpit too.
They were given an exception...they had on 'the uniform'.

Was the Bible written only to American men and women?

slam dunk for HO.
She does have a point here. Our culture has adopted to women wearing pants. There are very few groups who do not accept this. I used to be one of those. Today I have no problem with it. As long as modesty is kept I have no problem with what many poeple wear. The immodesty of our culture I have a real issue with. When I say that I really mean the sexualization of EVERYTHING in our culture. That is a major problem and that is one that seems to be ignored in a lot of churches. They do not want you wear pants ladies or cut your hair but lets not say anything about the skin tight skirts and see through tops and the after service activities of our young people.

HO, you keep going back hundreds and thousands of years ago. I know already! we are not in ancient bible times! we are not living out the same lifestyle as a village in Africa. I am not advocating that we go over there and try to make them all think, act and look just like americans no more then we would expect for all of us to start dressing like a 3rd world country.

Let's ask WHY we have adopted this. Has it helped us or hurt us? As foreverBlessed pointed out, look at our boys. they are changing. why ? because culture is changing and the lines of distinction are being blurred more and more. you cannot tell me that hollywood and culture have not brought this about long with the spirit of the last days that we are living in

Mark, then why do you insist on bringing up the fact that 100 years ago, women didn't wear pants in this culture and society? If we aren't going to talk about dress styles of the past, then why is this an issue?
Let's talk about 2008. Not 1908.

It still has nothing to do with dress styles. It's a heart matter.
Do you suggest that Sodom and Gomorrah were only vile because of their dress culture? Did they have Hollywood influencing them also?
No. They had bad hearts. That's the bottom line.
