We are never required in scripture to fully understand the makeup of God. We are only required to understand that there is One God and that Jesus is that God.

Re: God is UNKNOWABLE?????????????????????????????
I find it hard to believe that our Father is unknowable, Brother Joseph. If we have been washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ we are His children. That means we have a familiar relationship with Him. His attributes are made known to us through His word.

I agree with you 100%. That is a DIRECT quote from the WPF Articles of Faith. I was confused when I read it.

What Verlon said would be more accurate.
Although we can understand the character and heart of God through Jesus Christ, as was His intention, we cannot know everything about God.
Where and when did He begin? He always was, but we still don't know how, in our finite minds. Understand that I am not questioning God's existence. It's just the age old question that we can only answer with - He always was, yet we ponder.......

God is unknowable--if you do not know Jesus Christ. He "hath declared" him.
Declared=
signifies "to announce, report, bring back tidings" (ana, "back," angello, "to announce"). Possibly the ana carries the significance of upward, i.e., heavenly, as characteristic of the nature of the tidings. In the following, either the AV or the RV translates the word by the verb "to declare;" in Jhn 4:25, RV, "declaree," AV, "tell;" in 16:13-15, RV, "declare," AV, "shew;" in Act 15:4, RV, "rehearsed," AV, "declared;" in Act 19:18, RV, "declaring," AV, "shewed" (a reference, perhaps, to the destruction of their idols, in consequence of their new faith); in Act 20:20, RV, "declaring," AV, "have shewed;" in 1Jo 1:5, RV, "announce," AV, "declare." See REHEARSE, REPORT, SHEW, SPEAK, TELL.

Re: God is UNKNOWABLE?????????????????????????????
I'll take a shot int the dark and say that unknowable here is referring to the "tip of the iceberg" idea.
If you are by chance on the water in an area that supports constant frigid climate, you will no doubt come across an iceberg. You can see the iceberg, but in all actuality, you can hardly see it at all. All you see is the tiniest part of the entirety. You could get right up to it and look down into the clear water and see more of it, and if you have what it takes, you could jump in (with goggles on so your cornea does not freeze, and only for a minute or your dead ), and swim under to see a bit more. If you are really interested, you could strap on a heated dry suit and scuba gear to see even more. In reality, to see all of it, you would need some pretty serious gear.
That is just an iceberg, God is a tad bit bigger . It would be a great thing to really "know" God in His entirety. Even the apostle Paul said that "we, (seems to be including himself here), see through a glass darkly", suggesting that for all of our knowledge, we only really know in part the things of God and imo God Himself.
So to say what I should have said in the beginning, instead of boring you to death , God is available to be known, but He is so great, it takes more than a life time to know Him completely. In fact it will probably take one individual lifetime, and 1 death to actual "know" God (When we see Him on the other side!).
And I just noticed a couple other people said the same thing as I read this over lol.

Re: God is UNKNOWABLE?????????????????????????????
God is unknowable in his essence. He has revealed Himself through Christ. In the OT he would reveal Himself at times to individuals. Moses in particular. In those times, there was no personal relationship, but absolutely everything was through the priest. God at his nature is unknowable. Out of that he expresses Himself so that we may know Him. His Word is another way to know Him. The Spirit is another way. Prayer. Having the name of Jesus is sure way to get a clear connection to heaven too. He is, after all, the mediator between God and man.
