In the Tampa Conference, ministers were standing and voicing their opinion on revolution number 4, and they kept referring to TV as a holiness issue. Why is it only TV? I will not preach against TV in my church, when people can get on the internet and watch Fox News, CNN, and very sitcom and soap on the networks. Why is TV a holiness issue and the internet is not? All because it’s in our precious manual and we have to sign an affirmation statement saying we agree with it every year. The church world outside the UPC look at us foolishly because we are so strong against TV and use all other types of technology.

Very well said. You cannot legislate holiness. Making rules is not going to do the job if a person is inclined to do what they want to do anyway and not discipline their flesh. On the other hand, Daniel lived in Babylon and maintained his righteousness, as did Lot in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Unfortunately, many of today's generation of UPC leaders seems to think that loosening up on any of the anti-TV rules of the past would be a form of compromise, or departure from the holiness ways left to us by the previous generation. This they would view as a form of betrayal of the heritage left to us, and the beginning of, or an indication of, backsliding. I dont see this as being the case, but
tradition is a strong thing overcome.
