I don't care for banjo music, but I pretend to tolerate it for the sake of peace in my extended (in-law) family.

Little Roy is quite good.Alot of the Lewis Family albums from the 70's and such had piano and drums which alienated them from the hard-core bluegrass purists.
I'm not quite the traditionalist my Dad is.I play a Electric bass which my Dad tolerates but he prefers the Upright bass.

Bluegrass music has evolved over the past 10-15 years. Allison Krauss, Nickle Creek, Bele Fleck, Mark O'Connor, have stretched the boundaries of bluegrass music for the better. Hayseed Dixie has covered bands like Iron Maiden and AC/DC with twang and bluegrass. David Lee Roth did an album of Van Halen tunes with a bluegrass band. Ricky Skaggs is doing a great job as well. I saw him on CMT Country Crossroads w/ Bruce Hornsby. Great concert. (You haven't heard SuperFreak until you heard the Hornsby/Skaggs version.)

I like the direction bluegrass is heading. It's the new jazz of the millenium..tv
