Question How Jealous Is God?

Been reading in Deuteronomy...and just curious as to what others feel or think about God and His jealousy over his people. It is a good thing or a bad thing? What is an idol really? How far will God go, or will he remove things purposely from our lives to allow us to give him the proper place in our lives? If he does do this...isn't that excessive force? Just thinking out loud...

Blessings, Rhoni

Why would we ever question anything God does???? Excessive force? Usually when he does things it is because he is drawing us closer to him and ultimately keeping us from hell.....if so, then please, God, use excessive force! I don't think I would call anything God does a "bad thing". Anything we put before God is an idol... This forum is an idol for some. Food is an idol for others.......... Just answering out loud!!!

Charging God with excessive force?

Sis, this is a prime example of allowing worldly thinking to get in your spirit, and start applying it to God.

He is God--how could ANYTHING He does be wrong?

Heres how far in the OT:

Son of man, behold, I will take away from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke: yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, neither shall your tears run down. 24:17 Sigh, but not aloud, make no mourning for the dead; bind your headdress on you, and put your shoes on your feet, and don’t cover your lips, and don’t eat men’s bread. 24:18 So I spoke to the people in the morning; and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

Heres how far in the NT:

He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me. Matt:10:37

True that he is jealous. But we cannot say he is "excessive" in his ways. After all he makes the rules and his ways are higher than ours. We ARE given Romans 8:28 to assure us he ALWAYS is working for our ultimate good.

Character and Nature of God

Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this
statement meant about the Character and Nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest
beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says:

"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do
you know when the silver is fully refined?"

He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it"
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his
eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Life is a coin. You can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend
it once.

Exactly!

His jealousy is perfect! It's pretty amazing to think that and All Might, All Powerful, All Knowing God loves me, chose me and looks at me as His possession in a way that He would be jealous if I put anyone or anything else before Him.

"Thou SHALT NOT have any other gods before me" ... His command.
