Re: Suits: Guilt By Association
I still wonder if all of these threads would be so robustly argued, or even exist at all, had but the early writers of "standards" used only words that described modesty, and seperation without using the actual articles of clothing.
IE, [using my own words] men should appear at all times with their shoulders and upper arms covered. A shirt should cover your chest and upper body to the point where your neck begins.
Rather than "a white dress shirt and tie are required"
I in no way understand how the modern suit became the sunday best for anything. I cant even imagine how such a device of torture became a fashion for the world.
As to beards, everyone likes mine, I like mine, there is no biblical prohibition, hence I have it. Some churches are fine with it and some are not. You may (or should) be able to ask the pastor why he prohibits, if he does.
From that you can decide to move on or not.
Regional differences may exist, making there no where you can go, and be used on the platform for instance. I beleive that is the case in my church. So.....I will simply be patient and see if it changes. That is preferable to the AoG church we investigated and turned down on doctrine.
