Re: Watching TV?
Most Pastors I know have stated that the internet and Facebook has wrecked more marriages than the TV ever did.
The reason I mentioned city parks is because I knew a young preacher who believed it was wrong to go to a park because there may be a woman in a bathing suit, laying out on the grass somewhere getting a suntan.

There is a saying though - you can't help a bird flying over your head, but you can prevent him from building a nest on your head. Same logic here. You can't prevent or keep evil influences from being around you, but you can avoid allowing those evil influences to overtake you and consume you.

It boils down to one thing - you. Where you go, what you listen to, what YOU do with your eyes is the problem - not necessarily the TV.

Great posts.
The saying GS posted, "Garbage in, garbage out" is very true.

That's the very reason I'm *EXTREMELY* particular about what music I will listen to. Even in "Christian music" circles, I'm very specific on what I consider "Christian".
While I don't have TV per se, I do have a few shows I watch online. I think it ultimately boils down to personal responsibility, as has already been stated here. There is much worse available on the internet, and easily accessible to anyone, regardless of age.
A bit of a tangent, but a few years back, there was an attempt to require all pornographic websites to switch to a .xxx domain name. It unfortunately failed, but it would have been a very simple way to block such content. Nevertheless, there is pretty good filtering software out there for parents.
Even still, the best parental control device is the parent themselves. Lead by example. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Kind of went off-topic there, but it was a natural transition, given the subject matter.

Re: Watching TV?
We have no TV. We do watch Youtube movies or old TV shows 4-5 hours a week. Great points have already been made. From what I can tell it appears there are practically zero current production TV shows I would watch.

Re: Watching TV?
TV is a dinosaur. Internet -- the medium used to post this thread - - is now becoming the means people use to watch such films for which they used TV before.

Re: Watching TV?
I dont tell folk they must get rid of their TVs anymore, but I noticed, when I got rid of mine, my prayer life all of the sudden got better. I can only suggest if folks want a better prayer life, to dump the T.V.
(Maybe the sins of the flesh I saw on TV was the hinderance?....Hmmmm)

Re: Watching TV?
I think seeing someone else sin on TV is just as bad as sinning ourselves....
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Or it may be the time spent watching tv was the hinderance.

Re: Watching TV?
I have noticed that movies and books are similar. You ind of put your self in the place of the lead role and you kind of live out the movie with them as you watch it. This is very dangerous depending on the content. even movies that are labeled family and inspirational are sometimes filled with induendo's and other content that will pollute the well. We can't live life out in the woods away from all society, but I believe we need to be very selective what we allow to speak into our lives. As has been said you can't name all sin, but I wouldn't be against calling out a program and explaining why it is bad to watch.

Both viewing carnality AND time spent affected me.
