Gitmo is the nemesis to our constitution. Closing it is overdue justice. If the president found someone to take 5 of the prisoners, I am not surprised he sent them post haste before the host changed his mind.
Close that place down !!!

It's naive to think they didn't know what happened. It was well documented before he was even brought back. They knew from interviews they had with his superiors and other troops who lived with him.

Unless, of course, you were the one being traded for...
Even being charged in the US and paying the small penalty here for his misdeeds he is still better off then he was before.
Lets let this play out and watch.

There were US soldiers who died searching for this deserter. He CHOSE to walk off the base.
Also, he's facing up to life in prison, not a small penalty. Hopefully he also loses the huge amount of money he was going to be paid as well.

Just so you know, his higher-ups, as in officers, were very relunctant to call him a deserter-- which is why the investigation into his disappearance stalled initially.
His fellow soldiers knew and were vocal about it, but not the officers. They purposely turned the other way.
It's still better for the American to be back home than in the hands of the Taliban.
