Settle the issue. Ask the poster if they spiritually think it is BETTER to sing from a hymn book.

It doesn't matter to me weather they are in a book or on a screen, though the songs with two parts might be hard to put on a screen.

Blume. His response was already given.

Re: Do Any of You Still Sing Out Of The Songbook
Now of course this is just my opinion.....but it would seem the modern Charismatic praise and worship has a greater impact than the hymns. I noticed that immediately when I first came to the Lord.
I would be sitting in the Church Of Christ where it was hymns only, trying to get involved. Of course hymns were for singing, very few of them directly to the Lord.
Charismatic worship as I discovered in 1975 was a WORSHIP experience. You were ENGAGING with Christ.

I'm late to the party, but I'll post anyway. We haven't sang out of a song book since '91. So... Yeah... it's been a while. Went to an "over head" projector and transparent overlays for a few years then stepped into the 21st century with computer software and projectors back in '97.

Most "praise singing" that I've heard is just a notch above chanting.

Re: Do Any of You Still Sing Out Of The Songbook
I should like to see and hear more true singing in the Spirit. All things must be done decently and in order, of course.
But I've only met one other person that actually sings in the Spirit.
I find that when songs with lyrics are employed, at least for me, they interfere too much with my mind and my ability to be led by the Spirit. I am trying to discern the voice of my Savior, to understand what He would have of me, but first, I've got to try and mentally block out 120 decibels of some vapid chorus being repeated ad nauseum.
