Nothing To This At All?

May or may not be racially motivated-- maybe the affects are racial in their dynamics.

However, there is not any question in my mind that the Voter-ID push being made by Republicans is partisanly political, and that should cause the fair and balanced mind to pause.

Re: Nothing To This At All?

Just another GOVERNMENT tentacle wrapping around the neck of a free people. We already have any number of identification to present. Why do we need a "voter ID card"??? Why does the GOVERNMENT have to make another regulatory law? In my precinct you have to show a Driver's License or State ID with your address on it and be matched to their list showing that you vote at that specific location. You can bring a utility bill in your name if the address isn't the same on your ID. If you cannot present adequate evidence that you're supposed to vote at that location, you are provided a provisional ballot.

We don't need another law requiring another form of ID.

And frankly... wouldn't be easier to manipulate an election using voter ID cards???? Think about it. Not only could cards be counterfeited... but if they are a part of an electronic process they can be programmed. Might they be programmed to cast more than one vote for a given candidate or for a candidate not chosen by the card holder? I STRONGLY advise that voting be kept low tech.

In cali they want to give illegals DLs. So we can give them DLs, but not require them to show them at polls?

The answer isn't to issue some new ID to all of us. The answer is to NOT ISSUE DRIVER'S LICENSES TO ILLEGALS.

voter ID laws do not intend to require voters get a "voter ID card".

The laws intend to require the individual prove who they are before they vote, by means of providing acceptible identification that already exists.

Most often, that means showing your drivers license, or equivelent state provided ID card for those who do not drive.

Re: Nothing To This At All?

The point here is that Republicans have serious concerns that there is a movement afoot where liberals will send in voters to sway a vote in some district using voters who live elsewhere. and voters who have voted in other districts.

Florida in particular has seen a number of examples of people who have voted both in FL and in NY. Voter ID laws would seek to insure that the voter lives where they are voting, and are elegible to vote in the election in question.

Republicans are also concerned with voting by those not qualified, such as felons in states where they are precluded as well as illegal aliens and legal immagrants who are not citizens.

There have been plenty of documented cases of liberal groups like ACORN etc where voter fraud has taken place.
