Women are not to be in the 5-fold ministry - but, as I already stated, one cannot ALWAYS (depends on context) make an argument from gender alone - yet, this is the very thing Sis. Alvear has tried to do & I'm simply pointing out the complete inconsistency of her argument in this area....Simple.

Can a woman be a Prophetess?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

If a woman can't preach, then we need to make sure they never tell their friends or neighbors about the gospel.

Unfortunately we tend to define "preach" as what a man does in church when he reads 1 verse out of context and then tells anecdotal stories for 40 min or so.

In the NT, the two verbs "preach" & "teach" are most often used interchangeably & synonymously (will try to demonstrate this later - posting on my phone right now). Kinda' like the nouns "God" & "Father" in the NT.

Prax, I know where you're going (remember, we've been there & done this for years!). I've dealt with the "Prophetess" argument in this thread numerous times already. There are no NT prophetesses & Paul mentions them no-where in ANY of his lists of the ministry.

Besides, "prophetesses" were not (nor have ever been) expositors of the Scriptures to men. If you're thinking they are, please demonstrate this from the OT (since they appear nowhere in the NT - other than Jezebel ).

Have to check back in tomorrow night - long day tomorrow.

Perhaps but consider Paul used "Preacher" and "teacher" distinctly

2Ti 1:11 For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher.

No but you mentioned the five fold ministry and one was "prophet".

What is a prophet if not someone who prophecies?

Luk 2:36 There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, having been married to her husband for seven years until his death.

On the Five Fold Ministry being all masculine nouns...thats not really a good argument.

Church is feminine and covers both gender believers.

There may be other nouns such as "brethren" meant to refer to both genders

"Believers" is masculine. Jews is.

I am noticing that every time you do come back, Sis. Alvear is still a missionary and still sharing the Gospel. I am thinking that she will continue doing that until she is laid in a pine box. Just sayin'...

Just as I said - I knew EXACTLY where you were going. Context determines whether gender has any bearing on an argument. Since the context of Paul's statement is ministry - I find it interesting that in NONE of the offices he mentions does he use the feminine - but ALWAYS the masculine.

As I said when Sis. Alvear first attempted to use this argument, noun gender is not ALWAYS a hard & fast rule - but just pointing out her glaring inconsistency.

You are assuming that Paul uses teacher, Apostle, & preacher distinctly - I would argue the polar opposite - that he's using them interchangeably. It ' snit like he changes hats - switching from teaching to preaching ??

Regarding Anna & prophecy - biblical Prophecy has never been taking a text from the scriptural canon & expounding from it to others - which is why the Bible does not record that Anna (nor any other woman) ever did so.

Back a little later !
