I do get what is happening though. I pointed out the truth that people feel alienated in those "service" and somehow hearing that truth has rocked some people's utopian boat. You don't want to know or hear about it because it might require being a Christian and having some sensitivity to your brothers and sisters in Christ who are hurting. But the best some can muster up is vitriol and attacks.

It really does reveal the state of "the church" in America when you can't consider ways to minister to your own brothers and sisters.
I get what you're saying Prax, and don't want to jump on the bandwagon.....but, if I were to carry your logic out a bit further, i.e., I'm not a father, so I won't go on Father's' Day, and I'm not a Mother, so I won't go on Mother's Day, and I'm not a young person, so I'll skip youth service.....what do you do when your pastor preaches to sinners?

And, I'm not trying to be flippant, but in a service geared towards unsaved people, do you go to support them?

Do you understand that? Women's Conferences are NOT for everyone...neither are Father's day programs. It's exclusive but billed as a "service" so lots of unsuspecting people go.

I chose not to. Now can you explain how not going to someone elses "day" makes me selfish when all I would be doing is trying not to fall asleep through the hour long non-church service "celebration"?

How arrogant can you be to demand we ALL sit through your little self exaltations of fatherhood?

You want to have father's day? That's fine. You don't need the non-fathers or those without fathers in order to do it do you? Now THAT is selfish Charnock...demanding we all have to go to your "party". ROFL
Ok, I am the last person in the world to criticize anyone for not going to church (especially since you actually did go elsewhere), as I haven't felt the need to go for the last 6 years or so. And when it comes to spiritual things, I'm pretty much live and let live.

So maybe you won't take it personally if I mention that your anger does seem a little bit excessive for the topic at hand?

So I feel that there might be some personal button that is being pushed. (but don't worry, I won't play armchair psychologist with you). However, it is obvious that you also have spiritual concerns as well.

Whereas, it is in my opinion appropriate for a community/organization to sometimes focus on on particular topic/role that does not effect everyone in said community. (i.e. I don't think you are right to ask that it not be done at all), however you maybe need to address the situation with your Pastor if you feel that the recognition to Mother's/Fathers to be surpassing the spiritual needs of the congregation to worship, hear the word, and have communal prayer.

I never remember having big woopdeedoo's for Fathers Day during Sunday morning church services. That was always saved for the big kahuna of celebrations, Mothers Day, with all its correspondent skits and poems.

I think Mother's Day being bigger, is a holdover from the old-fashioned Mom stayed home with the kids, days. I mean back then, women rarely got recognized for their work. No big promotions, no awards, no performance evals, so I think they deserved to have a whole day dedicated to them.

But now, in my relationship for example. My husband and I both work full time, my daughter doesn't go to daycare, we split child care by working opposite shifts, and he is actually with her 2 more hours a day then I am. We mostly split house work as well, I do a little bit more, but he only gets 5 hours of sleep a day, so I think I got the better deal!

Don't interrupt him, Barb. He's enjoying his bitter rant way too much to be troubled with logic and kindness.

I pray for them and support the gospel message. BTW I dont go to the youth service because its on the same night as the adult class, but I might slip in and hear a message that is relevant to everyone despite being preached to youth and thn pray for someone that is new and praying for the Holy Spirit.

But again that is apples and oranges because you are comparing a PROGAM to a SERVICE...

See? There is a huge difference between sitting through an hour long parade of pictures, videos and gift give aways
All about Father and have people feel alienated because their fathers are dead, in prison or just gone and a service ministering to sinners. Thats church! Thats why many of us go! Thats not an accurate comparson.

Can I ask why people are so upset that I stay home instead? Thats amazing to me that because I posted the truth that people feel alienated and I get atacked. I admit I often stay home and people attack me personally. Doesn't that bother you?

I never said not to have anything for dads. In fact I said lets do that and include those that are not fathers or dont have fathers...the result again was to be attacked...

Seriously I dont know whether to laugh at how many have an "I dont care" attitude or be sad that we call ourselves Christians doing it.

As I said its possible to have our program AND have an actual church service or some how minister to them.

This goes beyond fathers day. People suffer depression and loneliness during Christmas and other holidays where families all get together and forget about thosd without. A solution would be to invite them and love them too..

I am reminded of another verse now

James 1:27 ESV

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Thats an attitude we should all have, one that is considerate
of those in our midst.
