What will you give for "Lent"
Lent is the forty-day liturgical season of fasting and prayer before the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where, according to the Bible, he endured temptation by Satan!
It started Wednesday, the 13th of February ~ and will continue for 46 days until Saturday, the 30th of March.
My Gramma (my mom's mom) was a very devout Roman Catholic and even tho I was raised Apostolic, I took a part in this with her until her passing. She was an Auschwitz survivor. A very hard shell, but soft hearted lady who spoke very broken english when relating her time of horror at Auschwitz ~ Born in Bulgaria, Germany, a beautiful lady who loved God and devoted her life to him. I miss our time together when we lived in Germany! She was my heart~ I miss her and will honor her by keeping this alive in my home as well.

I won't give up anything for lent, even though my Mom is Catholic. But, I didn't make a New Year's resolution either.

Re: What will you give for "Lent"
Godzchild, I did all of that while I was a child. When I left the Roman Catholic Church, I left all those traditions behind.
However, I think that it is precious that you continue this in honor of your wonderful grandmother. I'm sure since my family came from Poland, that I've lost family members during that horrible time of the holocaust. Not all family members came during their exodus to America. I am a third generation American of Polish descent.
I had bittersweet memories when I saw all the people around town with ashes on their foreheads last night.
But, I just cannot go back to that.

I understand where you are coming from, but thank you for your kind post. Its something I do ONLY in her honor. I sort of figured I would get some silly posts on this (excluding yours). Nothing to be upset or offended over~ This was just to see what some may have said they were willing to "give up".... Nothing "heart stopping" serious :-) even tho the "belly button" one was icky but funny....Have a very blessed weekend my dear friend!
