Wives, however, are on the list. Hmmmmm. Nah. Not worth it.

Re: Timmy Talk

Merry Christmas, Timmy!

I thought of you as I listened to this especially the part near the end when Boyd encourages his congregation to give God the benefit of the doubt.

Some people think this is a sad thing, but I don't. Of course, it would be nice to see my loved ones again, but in the here and now, I have them with me, and the memories of the ones who died before me. To believe in an afterlife that has two possible destinations, one good and one bad, depending on certain things in this life (whether actions/works or belief/faith or something else) is, IMO, horrible.

IMO, it is best to live this life for its own merit. For many reasons.
An uncomfy AMEN.

But what would He punish people for? There are many views of this matter, of course. One view that is popular around here is that God will punish (forever in flames) those who don't believe in Him, believe that the Bible is His Word, and obey His Word. (Details on what obedience means are another matter!) And this is where I have a serious problem: why would God put such a requirement on every one of us? We have to choose which purported holy book to believe? And we have to choose the right method of obedience, to get a good afterlife? We have to believe some people that say God told them the way, and disbelieve others?

Not buying it. Not anymore.
Me, too.
"Any hope of doing good now for a reward in the afterlife becomes immoral,"
or something like that. Gandhi

I think it might be important to reflect, for a moment,
on why you (or most of us) got 'saved' in the first place:
so that 'we,' 'ourself' -- in my case, 'Mark Whittington,'
might have eternal bliss, pref with lots of virgins, eventually,
that is to say 'when I die.' (Which is going to occur at a different
time for me, than it is for God for me, at least according to our human definitions, as it turns out)

The point being that God has a better idea,
and better definitions. Hey! That's what I got!
The Definitions! Neat; so I get to spend my life
rephrasing (misunderstood) truisms to people,
to strange looks. Ps if Im ever guessing, Ill say
"Im guessing."

Timmy, you are writing the Testament of Timmy,
right now, in a sense, I think? It includes how
religious authorities might mis-represent God
with the best of intentions, etc? Dont know for sure,
Ill have to study Hebrews some more. Good thread.

Re: Timmy Talk

...did I say anything?
I came back to say that
I believe that I will be there,
on that majikul, far-off tomorrow,
when beer really IS free...
but will I be Mark, then?
I'm already told I'll have another name;
will I still be me?

Is an 80 year old...Mark, the 2 year old Mark?

I have recog'ed that 'what I believe'
is pretty much irrelevant-possibly.
C U there, T.
