Ok, I'm more in line with the "militant" DIL (though if my boob was hanging out when the baby wasn't nursing...than THAT would be a big deal to me!)
But in my case, my daughter would freak out if I tried to cover her up. And I'm not going to not feed my baby because it makes others uncomfortable. And I guess that I feel that if something so completely natural makes other uncomfortable, then they are the ones that need to excuse themselves.
I had a friend who was once asked to go into the restroom and nurse there. She politely responded, "would you want to eat in the bathroom?"
I think that with people becoming more and more aware of the importance of BF, and fighting for public acceptance. Most states now exempt BF from public indecency laws regardless of if the nipple is showing, and further in most states anywhere that Mom and Baby have the right to be, it is legal to breastfeed. Meaning Legally, you couldn't refuse to allow a woman to BF in the sanctuary. A lot of people aren't aware of that. I honestly never thought about BF before I had a baby.

Re: Breast feeding during worship.
Personally myself being a nurse for 18 yrs I have seen more body parts then I can remember so I wouldn't freak out if I walked by a mom bf but do think it's best to just cover. If someone has problem with mom bf covered then they really got issues.

In the 70's BF hadn't hit as fashionable or DR. endorsed so I would not have been the least bit militant.....I was a wimp then, and am still a bit of a wimp .
But my daughter is BF my 2nd grandchild, and just like the first , she feeds him wherever she is if he is hungry.
And she is not a wimp.... if it is a concern to someone , too bad! Her favorite line is ....if breastfeeding my baby upsets you, put a blanket over your head!

Re: Breast feeding during worship.
it's sad that in our society women's breasts have become something sexual.
Women and other mammals have breasts to provide nourishment for their offspring. There are other areas of the world where it is not even considered immodest for women to appear in public bare breasted. And in some places it is not considered any more inappropriate for a woman to breast feed in public than it would be for her to bottle feed her baby in public or to feed a child baby food in public or for her to give her children hamburgers in public.

Re: Breast feeding during worship.
Michelob, does the law place a limit on how old the baby can be to be nursing his mother's exposed breast? There are some school aged children still nursing...

I am going to have to think about that.

Re: Breast feeding during worship.
I consider myself pretty "militant" concerning gun rights, but I won't pull my gun out and start cleaning it in the middle of worship or preaching. Rather, I would do is discreetly underneath a small jacket or shammy cloth I may carry with me at all times for that very purpose so the people sitting around me have no idea what I'm doing.

Re: Breast feeding during worship.
My husband and I were in TJ Maxx recently and a lady was walking around breast feeding (not covered). My husband was so embarrassed. He practically ran out of TJ Maxx. I can't imagine what he would do in church if he saw someone breast feeding uncovered. lol
