In my case in TX and TN the teams also did not have practice on Wednesday nights so people would not have a conflict with church.

Post 46 sites a different example.

My boys have been involved in Little League for a couple of years. It was one of the most awesome experiences for us. The boys learned a lot but what was most evident is the reaction we got from fellow parents about how well behaved our kids were . At the end of the season we talked to one of the coaches and he told us that we were some of the best parents they had met---that there was something different about us. We were upfront on baseball not interfering with church. It never did. We were just as involved as before.
We go to a church now that doesn't want their kids involved in sports. I grew up that way---honestly I don't agree with it now that I have seen how it didn't have any negative effects on my family. In fact it was positive! I won't go against my pastor though--baseball isn't THAT important.

That leads me to believe that it's a personal choice. Quizzing didn't keep someone in church who didn't want to be there and sports didn't keep someone out of church who wanted to be there. I would say it's not just the activities that we are involved in, but the condition of our hearts and minds toward God.

I wasn't trying to imply you did, but you did mention bible quizing as an eternal value verses sport:
" Of course no one knows what might have happened if the time spent on sports had been spent on things with eternal value like Bible Quizzing or other such activities. Glad you were able to influence others for Christ!"
By point being bible quizing is a competition. Since when does memorizing the word of God become a thing for competition verses for godly edification? That was my question to you.

I don't have a problem with the competition part of Bible Quizzing. If we can make learning the word of God fun for our youth and children I am all for it. Wish it had been around when I was a child.

Hey, I am going to be in NYC for the first time in a couple of weeks. Is NY style pizza really that much better?

Take the subway (R or N, I think) to Cortland, get on one that goes across to Brooklyn and eat at Grimaldi's under the Brooklyn Bridge. It is the best in the city! You will feel like a local. You can take a taxi, if you want to be a "tourist".

Fortunately I will have a couple of hosts that are very familiar with the city. I will mention this as a "must do" thing.

Their pizza has mounds of real Italian mozarella, not the shredded kind you get at most pizza places. It is absolutely awesome! But the one in Brooklyn (which is the original one) ONLY has pizza, no salads or sandwiches or anything else. The ones that have opened since then in Scottsdale, Tempe, etc. have a large variety of menu items, but still that wonderful pizza. The one in Brooklyn is like a hole in the wall, but it will be packed if you go at lunch, and you may have to wait if you go right at noon. Also, the white pizza is phenomenal!!
Oh, I love NY!

Now you are making me want to go a day earlier just so I can eat there more than once.
