Tree of Life
TREE OF LIFE
It is well known by those who study herbology and other natural medicines that trees contain many therapeutic benefits in its leaves, bark and roots. Plants as well contain similar healthful properties if only man knew them or could find them. Needless to say there is no naturally occurring tree or plant that will grant man life everlasting, that time is past in the present context. But there are temporal benefits that can be obtained to allow man to live out his span in health and great vigor until he must return to the dust.
I am basically a "literalist" when the Text and context demands it. Thus the idea of a Tree of Life as literal tree provides no problem for me at all. I fully accept the statement as Written. However, since that Tree is no longer available to man it is an academic issue but with one provision and that is, there are trees available to men today that can greatly enhance their general health if only they knew what trees and where they are to be found.
One explorer of previous centuries wrote this in his log while exploring the wilds of Canada.
"When the French first came into contact with the American Indians, they too were equally astonished that "the savages" successfully used expectorants, emetics, purgatives, astringents, diuretics, and emmenagogues. Jacques Cartier noted in his log (1534 A.D.) that most of his men had come down with "a deadly pestilence." This pestilence he described in some detail: (227)
"Some lost their very substance and their legs became swollen and puffed up while the sinews contracted and turned coal black, and in some cases, all blotched with dips of purplish blood. Then the disease crept up to the hips, thighs, shoulders, arms and neck. And all the sick had their mouths so tainted and their gums so decayed that the flesh peeled off down to the roots of their teeth while the latter almost fell out in turn."
"The Indians told him what to do and provided him with an infusion of the bark and leaves of what they called a "magic tree." His men drank this and he reports, "In six days the miraculous tree worked more wonders than all the physicians of Louvain and Montpellier using all the drugs of Alexandria could have done in a year." And yet so bright are we as Japhethites that we never even took the trouble to find out what tree it was!"
The purpose of the reference is not to discuss the particular malady of the explorers but that the tree was the healing agent and in a manner of a few days. We are therefore advised that a tree was in fact a source of restoration of health and thereby an agent of the Creator.
Health being the "natural" order of the seminal man and his wife until sin and then death found its way into the unnatural order transmitting the ravages of disobedience to all the progeny. Death is actually very unnatural, it is a penalty for sin, rebellion and tho we as the offspring of the seminal parents had no part in their transgression we nevertheless feel the effects of their departure from God. Death now haunts the minds of men holding them in fear of that hour when their tabernacles of clay are dissolved and they return to the elements.
The way back to the Tree of Life is only via the Person and Work of Yeshua Messiah, He is the Door, the Way the Truth and the Life...no man can come unto the Father except by Him. Further, no man CAN come to Him except the Father draw him. It is by invitation only. All true evangelism begins and ends with the Person and Work of Yeshua.
With the increasing illness among many members of the Body of Christ and the seemingly absence of genuine Healing Ministries among almost all congregations and notably among those who assign their origin to various "healing evangelists" a post regarding natural sources of healing is in order. Finding the proper herb, leaf, root or bark that would address the particular malady is the secret. And that is a secret I do not possess but I am making efforts to discover such sources that will allow the man or woman to live out their predestinated span in health and vigor.
