Why don't you get a wetsuit, like surfers wear? Completely covers you, and is already designed for the water.

Wouldn't it be easier and safer to wear lighter weight pants? Maybe some workout pants or khakis? Wet jeans weigh a ton.

When I swim I wear a pair of pajama pants and a long sleeve shirt made of the same material as a thick tshirt.
