Re: Tongues and Interpretation Today

Interesting thread.

It is amazing how many 'prophesies' say absolutely nothing and yet are open ended enough to fit any situation after the fact. It is a human trait which has allowed years and years of magic and mentalist acts to be performed by people who are usually MUCH more talented and accurate than what we have seen in churches. The magician or mentalist MUST be better at his trade because his audience, while expecting to be entertained, are also looking for the secret to how it's done. In a church setting, the average person doesn't dare question the one giving the prophecy or word of knowledge lest they meet an untimely death on the drive home.

However, the person giving the prophecy/interpretation is still limited (humanly and vocabulary wise) that regardless of how they give the message, there is still some sort of prejudice to the message PLAINLY because it's a human vessel.

People tend to think that God "controls" the mouth of the speaker while giving the prophecy/interpretation, but it's not so. The utterance comes from within while the human vessel has to give forth the message (still with human limitations)

This is the difference between PROPHECY in the NT vs OT

In the OT, the Spirit came upon the men and spoke directly, so it was "Thus saith the Lord" directly. And the consequence of false prophecy was death in the OT.

In the NT, the Spirit gives utterance from within, and the vessel proceeds to speak. However, in the NT, we don't judge prophets, we judge PROPHECY.
This is a good description.

what does the scripture say, because it either is or it isnt from God.

1 corinthians 14 is pretty clear the word of prophecy doesnt originate from you it comes from God, so if the prophecy is found to have merit, then it is a thus saith the Lord.

also who said scripture had to stop? we are still writing the bible down daily with our own lives, Most of the new testament is what people witness, its no different than what we witness today as those people did in the book of acts.
