I know of a few that are willing to make the argument that today's Republican Party has more in common with the Democrat Party of years ago-- but most Republicans today don't like that comparison.
The comparison wouldn't bother me so much if I there was no truth to such a comparison, but there is. Even still, most Republicans are not Klansmen, but you ask a Klansmen TODAY what party they will usually vote for and I GUARANTEE they won't say Democrat.

How the Klan chooses to vote is irrelevant. The truth is that an African-American, Herman Cain, was the frontrunner for the GOP nomination until David Axelrod operatives derailed his nomination, hypocritically, with stories about infidelity. Cain came to our suburb here in Memphis last year because he was invited by the local chapter of the Tea Party. Tea Party banners were proudly displayed everywhere. So much for the "Tea Party are racists" mantra. The Weather Underground, Hugh Hefner, the Man-Boy Love Association and
Ted Kaczynski are probably more likely to vote for the Democrat Party but doesn't make all Democrats terrorists, pornographers, pedophiles and pipe bomb makers.
The truth is that liberals and the Democrat Party have been successful to convince almost an entire minority to vote en masse for the Dems, believing they have their best interests in mind. And yet the statistics show that the socialism espoused by the Democrats for nearly 70 years has done more to keep African-Americans dependent, less educated, less family oriented, less responsible than just about any other factor. Yet the AA voting bloc will continue to vote for liberal politicians election cycle after election cycle to the tune of 90% or better. Since the War on Poverty initiated by LBJ, have things improved for the AA community as a whole? Some $17 trillion have been thrown at every conceivable program advertised to help raise the quality of life for the poor and uneducated, yet the stats don't show any real improvement over the decades.
I drive through blighted areas of Memphis, a city dominated by white and black Democrats locally, statewise, and in Washington for decades and wonder is this the best the Democrats can do for the people they represent? Yet year after year Democrats get elected again and again and again here.
