Re: Metal Detecting

If one went to the fairgrounds, I wonder how much loose change could be found? If I could afford one, I would see what I could find.

I'm sure a ton of change and other valuables get dropped but because it doesn't get buried right away I would assume that the next passerby simply scoops it up. Having said that though I am sure a guy could find quite a bit once the fair moves on.

Re: Metal Detecting

I knew a man who would wait until almost everyone had left the fairgrounds, and he found tens of dollars every year as the fair wrapped up for the night.

Re: Metal Detecting

If you look in yards of old house where they were rather poor and had a lot of kids, you will find a lot of silver nickles, dimes, and old pennies. Lot of smaller pewter toys and other items. Always had a lot of luck in old farm houses. Catholic communities in small towns also render up a lot of sterling silver religious items.
I think one of the most interesting finds was a new born infant ring which was gold and had a small emerald chip in it. It was nine inches in the ground and in a yard where a colonial house from the 1700's stood.

There's too many choices. Wonder what the best selling detector under $300 is?
