Anyone here not feel comfortable in a church without statues?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: The Cross

Why do we need an image to remember? How can we forget?

Re: The Cross

Here's my view point: we keep photographs and images of our friends and family, and loved ones. Sometimes we capture moments in time with photos of birthdays, weddings, and other events we want to remember for a life time.

Having a cross, or a picture of Jesus, or an image of a scene from the Bible is like that - keeping an image of a moment in time to remember for life. That's how I look at it. I love Jesus, and I love the cross. I enjoy seeing images that remind me of Him and what He did on the cross. No harm and no foul. For those of you who are iconoclasts, I respect your belief. I don't share it.

Re: The Cross

We had a visitor in our UPC for one special service...could have been Easter. He made the statement that there were more pictures of the pastor in the lobby than there were crosses or pictures of Jesus.

Re: The Cross

I have been in places with crosses and without. It never affected me at all. I do not think about it, nor do I care. What I want to know is that the Spirit of the Lord is there, and that the truth is being preached, if neither of those things are going to present, do not count on me to show up no matter what you have for an image.

Sure, I have the Holy Ghost, and I'm not reliant on a cross symbol to trigger my memories of Christ's death (because often I think of the crucifixion without seeing a cross), but at the same time I think it serves as a reminder for saints and sinners who need to be reminded of that great gospel story.

Thou shalt not make unto the any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath , or that is in the water under the earth..Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that that me....
and let me add , "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven"

What you have admitted , Dante is that you are carnal minded..The carnal mind is fleshly and natural ,..not spiritual ..wherefore, God is a Spirit and that that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.....

To depend on images to keep him in your mind or thoughts means that he is absent from your life..or he is not manifest enough to satisfy your desires for him...Actually Jesus requires a lot more attention than what we are giving him..maybe we are too busy or engaged in affairs of this life that consume our energies..

Remember that God requires our whole heart....

and speaking of jealous ...I'll tell you how Jealous I know God to be..

33 years ago when I first was being filled with the Holy Ghost...while the rivers were flowing and I was overwhelmed with incredible intense JOY , the thought came into my mind....." I gotta go tell my wife" ....and immediately the Spirit began to subside....( and I knew that I have messed up) because God had not finished with me...there was ans is more ..

Now at the end of a trail early this year The Holy Spirit spoke to me these words and when he spoke them I remembered that incident in the initial experience in the Holy Ghost....

He said.. " Thou shalt have no other gods before me..."

NOw baCK TO IMAGES ... Jeremiah 10 :15 Every man is bruitish in his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image : for his molten image is falsehood , and there is no breath in them....they are vanity and the work of errors in the time of their visitation they shall perish .
16. The portion of Jacob is not like them:

In verse 10 it says , "but the lord is the true God, he is the living God.."

All I have to really do is just point you to the Roman Catholics and all their errors from generation to generation...they've had these images passed on from one generation to the next..and we see a multitude of errors...

God is a Spirit , and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.....spirit is or comes from your breath..notice from one breath to the next we have the opportunity to praise
God and give glory to him..at an instant....no need of an image of any kind..

no need to be reminded if you are saved ...The baptism in the Holy Ghost is for me unforgettable ...

God has taken me by the hand and has put his word in my mouth.....

They are perfectly alright if they can raise their hands and praise the Lord with the rest of us...

Cause some think that their use or nonuse of crosses makes them more spirtual than others.
