Yeah, it sure does. When someone says "I'd expect this from non-Christians" I completely misunderstand it.

Christians, even to non-Christians, are supposed to have a high moral standard. Not just a self determined standard. It's codified in the bible

An atheist does not follow that standard. They have their own and since they have no moral guide other than their own will, there is no guarantee an atheist would not do or advise such a thing. Same goes with many pagans.

I'd expect something like this, like that from anyone that did not have a moral standard to guide them.

Now, before your little wheels get spinning, please note the grammar of what I said. I said I'd expect this from a non-Christian" in comparison to a Christian. Not "I expect all non-Christians to have such a view"

In other words, due to Christians having a moral standard, the bible, this should not be expected...as Paul said

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us, and has given Himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor.
Eph 5:3 For let fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness not be once named among you, as becomes saints,
Eph 5:4 neither baseness, foolish talking, jesting, which are not becoming, but rather giving of thanks.
Eph 5:5 For you know this, that no fornicator, or unclean person, or covetous one (who is an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Real Christians are supposed to behave as though they are here in Christ's stead. Christian means a disciple of Christ or someone that is trying to be Christ like...like Christ. Thus such a behavior or attitude does not belong to the appellation "Christian".

Please tell me that did not go over your head...or is it that Timmy is just conveniently avoiding the point to start trouble?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I was just thinking earlier today............ One of my all-time best friends was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She was a well-loved, highly respected lady who had taught school here for many years. Her husband is a wonderful man who stood by her till the very end. But I have to tell you that if he had made the choice to abandon her and divorce her at any point with this terrible disease, he would not have wanted to continue to live in our small, close-knit, little town.

Terri was a great fan of Pat Robertson. I have to wonder now what she would be thinking if she knew what he has said. Shame on him!

Well, first, you said "non-Christians", not "a non-Christian". And I got your point. Nothing I said contradicted your point. But conversations sometimes go in different directions. I don't even disagree with the point you made, that Christians are supposed to behave in certain ways, and that many of them don't. When I said I hope you don't think only Christians have a value system (a term you first brought up), I simply meant I hope you don't think only Christians have a value system. I didn't say you did. Some Christians do believe that.

Also please note that your grammar did not unambiguously specify either all non-Christians or some. The plural, as you used it, could be taken either way. If I speculated on why you changed it to singular, you'd only pounce on me. So I won't.

Sorry about your friend. I hope that nobody actually listens to Pat on this particular matter. Well, I suppose the guy that asked that question was overjoyed at hearing it, but guys like that are pretty much a lost cause, anyway. Good people will see it for the nonsense that it is.
