The nanny state says teevee bad for children

http://michellemalkin.com/2011/07/11...ss-of-the-day/

Quote:
Day care centers in Colorado may have to meet new rules that regulate everything from the race of dolls to how much TV kids can watch.

According to documents obtained by 7NEWS, the changes being proposed by the Colorado Department of Human Services include:

*Children over 2 years old shall be served 1 percent, 2 percent or skim milk (unless directed in writing by a child’s health care provider)
Looks like holiness folks are leading edge. TV stunts the cognitive development of childrens minds. It generates anxiety disorders.

Many benefits. millions of people are not making ends meet. If they dumped cable, cell phones and junk food, that today is a good chunk of change.

Re: The nanny state says teevee bad for children

My whole family is UPC. They are like zombies when a TV is on and love to watch stuff.

My kids are not allowed to watch very much television but we do have one in our home so they have access to it anytime. My kids play, interact, and love socializing with others while the other children in our family who are UPC do not want to do anything but watch the boob tube.

I feel like I have wasted so much time when I am watching that thing. They stretch everything out to take 30 minutes or an hour. In an hour I could basically read the whole news paper or read half of a book. With books you don't have to wait for commercials either.

Re: The nanny state says teevee bad for children

I spend FAR more time in front of the computer than in front of our Samsung 47 inch LCD.

We actually watch several shows but do not spend nearly the same amount of time we used to even a few years since we discovered the wonders of the DVR, via DirecTV. The possible exception is this past week when we spent quite a few hours watching the 2nd half and full 3rd season of Fringe. I am all Olivia, Peter, and Waltered out right now.

NO surprise Boston Childrens Hospital recommends no tv in young children causes adhd doesnt matter whats on, its the constant flashing ,their minds are like computers you can program them any way you want.also promotes violence in children. One nurse took hers away from her kids and within a month they calmed right down,no more temper tantrums, totally different child.

Anxiousness and disruptive behavior starts clearing up in days. Take them off the tube.
I will go a step farther and say boredom is dealt with by kids getting creative and entertaining themselves.

Re: The nanny state says teevee bad for children

I have cable up stairs in my room, pretty much to watch sports and news(sometimes). There's a television downstairs with no cable for the kids. They watch clean christian movies, educational shows, and few DVDs I picked out for occasional entertainment. Some things I won't expose my children too, as a child I was exposed to enough living in an unsaved home, they don't need that. As for the State of Colorado though, I don't think their overreaching policies have anything to do with the Holiness Church. It's just an extension of the nanny state, it can't be compared to an actual parent being RESPONSIBLE enough to keep certain shows from their children. You can't legislate parenting.

Strange. We do UPC but pretty much reject TV.

I have observed what you describe in people who have not seen a silver screen before... Never had chocolate so they are eating the whole box...
But that aside, it seems it's the less conservative kids who get literally hooked on all manner of technology like texting at dinner, the latest series of video games etc.

Given a choice our family would go to computers over tv. Well - ok maybe not my one year old! But even the computer is not top priority. We limit it to only a couple days a week, about an hour for each child.

And my kids would probably join yours socializing... wile playing soccer or their favorite interactive board or card games.

Guess it has not much to do with UPC after all.
