Seascapes regarding big oil and food prices.

People outside of the food industry, oil industry and that have no economics classes blame foodprice increases on big oil companies.

A little about big oil. Big offshore driling rigs cost 40 million dollars. Little oil can't afford them
Drilliing a well can easily cost 15 million dolllars. Little oil can drill the 200,ooo dollar wells.

Test for seascapes. Rank the top 3 causes for higher food costs.

1 drought and heat in Russia and wheat crop failure
2 Floods in asia
3 Lower crops in Brazil
4 Higher numbers of acres in Brazil given for cane for ethanol
5 EPA fines and new restrictive mandates
6 Drop in the value of the dollar due to 1 trillion dollar deficits
7 Obama killing the sale of offshore leases
8 Obama stopping all drilling permits in the Golf of mexico
9 Flooding in Austrialia
10 Frosts killing crops in South America
11 Bad weather in Canadia during planting season
12 Pushing an increase in ethanol consumption
13 Venezuela dictator taking control of American Oil companies like Obama seized the 2 car builders.
14 Out of control leftists shutting off the water to crop lands in California.
Please explain your top 3 choices.

Not a fair test, teacher, you didn't put the real answer as choices.

U.S. food prices rose 4% in 2007 and are expected to gain 3.5% to 4.5% in 2008. Higher farm commodity prices and energy costs are the leading factors behind higher food prices. Farm commodity prices have surged because (1) demand for corn for ethanol is competing with food and feed for acreage; (2) global food grain and oilseed supplies are low due to poor harvests; (3) the weak dollar has increased U.S. exports; (4) rising incomes in large, rapidly emerging economies have changed eating habits; and (5) input costs have increased. Higher energy costs increase transportation, processing,
and retail costs.

Although the cost of commodities such as corn or wheat are a small part of the final retail price of most food products, they have risen enough to have an impact on retail prices. Generally, price changes at the farm level have a diminished impact on retail prices, especially for highly processed products.

The impact of higher food prices on U.S. households varies according to income. Lower-income households spend a greater portion of their income on food and feel price hikes more acutely than high-income families. Higher food costs impact domestic food assistance efforts in numerous ways depending on whether benefits are indexed, enrollments are limited, or additional funds are made available. Higher food and transportation costs also reduce the impact of U.S. contributions of food aid under current budget constraints.

From the website dated 3/14/2008 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23632933...-capitol_hill/

As President Bush noted in his comments on the economy Friday, “Prices are up at the gas pump and in the supermarket.” Food prices increased at a compound annual rate of 4.7 percent for the three months ending in February, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That increase was far less than the 7.6 percent jump in energy prices for the same period, but it occurred in a financial environment in which investors have been fleeing declining dollar-denominated assets such as U.S. stocks and bonds. Instead, they've been investing in commodities, such as wheat, corn, and soybeans — and it's driving up their prices.

Exactly one year ago (this would be 2007) National Turkey Federation president Ted Seger told the House Agriculture Committee that the federal ethanol mandate would drive up corn and soybean prices and hurt consumers who eat turkey.

There have long been tax breaks to encourage production of ethanol, and last year President Bush signed a law mandating a substantial increase in the use of renewable fuels, principally ethanol, over the next 15 years.

Coadie, next time you give me a test, get your facts straight and let's be fair. President Obama was not the President then Bush was.

By the way, did I pass?

Re: Seascapes regarding big oil and food prices.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7276971.stm

Part of article to follow:

The first reason why prices are rising is growth in the world's population, which is expected to top nine billion by the middle of the century.

That is an incredible number of mouths to feed and will put pressure on a range of resources, including land, water and oil, as well as food supply.

But lurking behind the headline figures for population is an even more significant factor pushing up prices, and that's the economic miracle driving emerging economies such China and India.

To put it bluntly, rich people eat more than poor people, and all this economic growth is generating a whole new tier of middle-class consumers.

What other factors are involved?

There is also the added environmental pressure all these extra people are loading onto the planet, as well as the impact of climate change.

Desertification is accelerating in China and sub-Saharan Africa, while more frequent flooding and changing patterns of rainfall are already beginning to have a significant impact on agricultural production.

And global warming has played a significant role in another driver of rising prices: the shift in agricultural production from food to biofuels.

Ethanol production is on course to account for some 30% of the US corn crop by 2010, dramatically curtailing the amount of land available for food crops and pushing up the price of corn flour on international commodity markets.

___________

Blame some of this on the false "global warming" propaganda, promoted by the present administration so much so he's doing an end run around legislation and pulling one of his tyrant tricks out of the bag and regulating what the will of the people say no to.

P/S, I thought "bolding" was bad. Just saying.........

Bolding isn't bad, it is the Giant type in different colors, bolding is good to put emphasis on a point being made. Did you copy and paste that information? I will check out that website. Thanks

Re: Seascapes regarding big oil and food prices.

Sandie, I checked out that site, it was very interesting. I noticed it was updated March 4, 2008.

I saw on the History channel that many scientist believes in "global warming", something is surely happening to our planet. I think it was Al Gore that started more people to look into the matter, not President Obama.

People always talk about the "will of the people", what people did they ask, they did not ask me. If you really want to know "the will of the people" it should be put on a ballot and voted on, to get the real "will of the people". That is why we have President Obama, he was on the ballot, he is the will of the majority of the people.

Al Gore is responsible for contributing to the global warming hysteria and so has Obama.

Do you read the opposing view on this topic? There are more scientists who disagree then agree on the global warming "theories".

Quote:
Why do we continue to listen to warmists when they're so wrong? Maybe it's because their real agenda has nothing to do with climate change at all. Earlier this month, attendees of a global warming summit in Cancun, Mexico, concluded, with virtually no economic or real scientific support, that by 2020 rich nations need to transfer $100 billion a year to poor nations to help them "mitigate" the adverse impacts of warming.

This is what global warming is really about — wealth redistribution by people whose beliefs are basically socialist. It has little or nothing to do with climate. If it did, we might pay more attention to Piers Corbyn, a little-known British meteorologist and astrophysicist who has a knack for correctly predicting weather changes. Indeed, as London's Mayor Boris Johnson recently noted, "He seems to get it right about 85% of the time."

How does he do it? Unlike the U.N. and government forecasters, Corbyn pays close attention to solar cycles that, as it turns out, correlate very closely to changes in climate. Not only are we not headed for global warming, Corbyn says, we may be entering a "mini ice age" similar to the one that took place from 1450 A.D. to 1850 A.D.

We don't know if Corbyn's right or not. But given his record, he deserves as much attention as the warm-mongers whose goal is not to arrive at the truth but to reorganize society in a radical way.

Defense of marriage act was on the ballot in most states. The horrible new judges from Obama are all committed to overturning state constitutions regarding gay marriages.

When people vote for libs, they tell us they support gay marriage against the will of the people.

November 2 told us people desopise the deeds of Obama. The bottom most loyal friend will never get their head around it.

Over 600 more state legislative candidates are Republican after Nov 2.

Re: Seascapes regarding big oil and food prices.

Just because I vote Democrat, doesn't mean that I agree with every issue. Do you republicans agree with every issue of the republicans? I vote for the one that will benefit me better and my family. I believe we need Social Security and Medicare, and the republicans does not. I believe we need good public schools, and the republicans want to go with vouchers to private schools. I believe in Disability, and the republicans does not. I believe in helping the working middle class, and people in need, the republicans does not.

Many of the views of the democrats fits my standard of living, that is why I vote democrat.
