RIP Dana Key

Dana Key, who with musical partner Ed DeGarmo formed one of the great rock bands in CCM history, died of a ruptured blood clot Sunday night at the age of 56, according to CCM's website and various other reports. In recent years, Key was a senior pastor at TLC Community Church in Memphis, Tenn., which was his and DeGarmo's hometown.

How sad. I loved Degarmo and Key. "I'm Accepted", "Casual Christian", "Destined to Win". Aaaahhhh...good memories.

May his family find peace and comfort during this time, knowing that "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

I seen them in concert way back when, in fact DC Talk was the opening act and no one had heard of them (DC Talk that is.)

Had a ton of their cassettes, and even his book, "Don't Stop the Music." They weren't afraid to go against the mainstream of Christianity to get the message out.

I was wearing a D & K shirt while working at a fair Waylon Jennings was playing the fair and one of his band members saw my shirt and said, "Hey I know those guys I went to school with Eddie."

Which I'm sure they were judged unmercifully for. Yet Paul himself said:

"To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings."

1 Cor. 9:20-23 (ESV)

Re: RIP Dana Key

I grew up listening to them during the 80's. Been to several concerts including the tour with DC Talk.

Are you ready (are you ready) to sit by his throne
Are you ready (are you ready) not to by alone
Someone's comin' to take you home
If you're ready, He will carry you home

Re: RIP Dana Key

Their music takes me back. My thoughts and prayers are for the Key family and all of his close associates in Memphis.

A note of trivia: Dana Key is the great-great-great-great-great-great grandson of another noted musical composer; one Francis Scott Key, of Star Spangled Banner fame.
