Colossians 4:6 (KJV) 6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
As a kid I remember playing a stupid practical joke at a Dairy Queen. Somewhere I go it in my head that it would be funny to unscrew the cap on the salt shaker to the point that the next person to use it would end up with all the salt on their food. I never considered the real consequences or the cost. Either the patron or the restaurant would have to pay to replace the food because it was unfit to eat.
In my humble opinion I see many of the faith as immature in conversation with those that have differing views as I was to play that joke. But the result is the same in that what otherwise might be good to eat is ruined with our pouring the whole box of salt on it.
The letter to the Colossians states that we are to always (that means ever) have grace in our speech. It’s ok to give a contrary answer. It’s expected that we’ll disagree, but to totally belittle, embarrass, name call or otherwise attack is unbecoming of those that call themselves “Christian”.
Just a pinch of salt brings out the flavor.
