Tyson Reverses Muslim Paid Holiday

Tyson Foods in Shelbyville, TN recently made news by agreeing to drop their Labor Day Holiday and adding a Muslim one as the paid Holiday.

They have now reversed that decision and will continue to recognize Labor Day as a paid Holiday.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

This is so true, but I am afraid it is just a delay.

Re: Tyson Reverses Muslim Paid Holiday

I think they should have kept the Muslim Holiday. More than half of their workforce is Muslim (Ethiopian).

I don't see what the big deal is. If the workers voted it in, and it's only for that plant, let them have whatever holidays they want. Maybe the Mexicans will follow suit and vote Cinco de Mayo as a holiday at the plants where they make up the majority.

Mardi Gras is a holiday down here. The hospital I work for is Catholic. We have fish every Friday. Yay! (Not! I don't eat in the cafeteria on Friday.)

Berk and Rico,

This is America and we should be celebrating American Holidays, not Muslim ones. They are welcome to celebrate any holidays they want in their private life or they can move back to the Middle East and celebrate them with official Holidays.

Next are we going to put Hindu and Buddhist Holidays on our calendar?

Exactly. This is America. A country that believes in unions. The union voted, the majority at that plant decided they wanted to change one of the paid holidays, and the company honored their request. It's no skin off your nose, CC1. If they want to change their paid days off, IT'S THEIR BUSINESS. Are you going to tell Irish people to go back to Ireland over St. Patrick's Day next? How about we tell all the blacks to go back to Africa over Martin Luther King Day? Your prejudice is showing, CC1.
