School is work. Lot of people disagree but one can get a college degree and have earned it and paid it off before graduation.

Even with a degree, one should continue to obtain formal education.

School is not for everyone.

There, I said it. And I believe that. A minimum amount of education (ie, diploma) is important, but in the way of Rich Dad Poor Dad, schooling is not the magic genie that secures your future. In fact, schooling has a big due date for all those loans at the end of the tunnel, and many that I work with are still paying off that debt. Artists, entrepreneurs, salesmen, etc... many examples of success outside of school. I HIGHLY encourage school, as a great way to build expectancy, but it's false hope thinking school is the magic idol/genie that takes all trouble away.

As far as your last statement, that doesn't even make sense. A degree IS formal education.

I think laziness is a symptom of poverty, and it stems from hopelessness. Some economically poorer people are lazy, some aren't.

Free country. People are free to earn and pay for phone service.

Well I understand school isn't a magic fix all but the fact remains that schooling does help with skills to obtain work. If people cannot get jobs to help pay their bills, then that is definitely a step they need to take. Thats what I am doing now.

True... but again, the solution to poverty is simplistically related to as "school." That's definitely part of the solution, but it's definitely not even touching the root.

Some politicians use the Education platform, and I think they have a point, but it unfortunately doesn't penetrate the problem far enough. I love seeing community organizations in ghetto areas working with students in schools to give them hope. Many don't even consider school nothing else but a place to hang out, and an extension of their social life -- which is anything but pleasant at times. Most of the negative behaviors are covers to deep fear, insecurity, unrest, hopelessness and yes, even ignorance. Small worldviews limit one's dreams.

Advanced education is a measure of endurance. willingto work hard when you are not in the mood and exhausted. With technology changes, a lot of work has a lot of changes in 5-10 years. One of the reasons I push education is when people have satisfying physical jobs, at age 62 when parts are wearing out, they still have another 10 - 30 years to go. I had a senior VP working for me. She didn't have a degree but was a high achiever. She needn't slow down at age 65 like her husband who worked on his knees installing fancy wood flooring.

Makes sense to me. Many occupations require continuing formal education, regardless the initial degree. I think Coadie is saying one's formal education should continue.
