Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...
We may not form a cult like that but if we are not careful it is easy to wind up with a cult mentality... I cringe to think of taking a child from its mother...but having friends in situations like the above many of the mothers are brainwashed and need help desperately...

Nope... It is wrong... And these men should be on a predators list also if they are taking of these young girls. And oh the pictures... some of these girls look the age of my 9 yr old.. holding their babies!! Its sickening! And someone said to me... I do not think they were carrying their own babies... sad thing is.. more likely than not they WERE holding their own babies!
My ex husbands best friend owns a snake farm in san angelo.. its the provider for tony lama... And when he and my ex would go out there. On occasion they would run into these people by chance in the town... They have been there for years an its common for the community... they know this is happening and have been trying to get things done for years! I do not agree with all of what has happened but I do not agree that these mothers should be allowed to be raped by these men and it be a free ride in the name of religion!

Yes indeed! I was personally connected to some of the members of the Branch Dividians and I have to say... even though this has not panned out the same as that situation... it is very similar in the sense you have mentioned. There is so much brainwashing happening in these compounds that it would scare anyone! The branch dividians I knew.. They did not believe in anyway what they were doing was wrong and that their mass production of children (which is indeed all they think of it as they do not have deep seeded emotions for these children but they are just basically breeding for a cause) was to help them as most of them are also told if they do not bear child for said leader or person... they will be hurt abused or even sent away!

Having friends in cults it makes me sick at my stomach how some people are blindly washed away by this kind of stuff.

I also feel for these mothers they probably have known nothing else. This group has been isolated from society and anything they have been taught about society is that it is evil and they are going to hell. This is a very real fear for people in these groups. So when the outside world intervenes it is scary and emotionally scarring. They purposely keep the women uneducated so that they will stay ignorant and not change. These women don't have any common sense like we think they should because what is common to them isn't what we have in common. It is much easier to stay in a bad situation that is familiar than to go into an unknown situation that might or might not be better. And to them the outside world is evil. These women need education. It is amazing what knowledge can do.
This doesn't change the fact that this whole situation could be a good thing for these women. They are raising children who are raising children who won't be able to function normally in society. We are talking about a secluded group that has one person in total control and they have cut off the whole outside world. This cutting off of the outside world keeps them in power to do what they want. We aren't talking about what we would consider a normal church situation. Getting these children out of an unhealthy situation isn't such a bad thing. Until you have been in their shoes it is hard to speculate on what you would or would not do. It is much easier to look at the situation and judge it from the outside than to actually live through it. I have seen women rise out of these situations, but with great ramifications to themselves and their families. They haven't had the same opportunities that many of us have had to make good decisions.
Again getting them knowledge and education along with good counseling will help them overcome what they have been through.

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...
I know lots of people at Homestead Heritage and at one time was closely connected with them (until I realized some things)...
It is so easy to build a cult...
Most cults are build with people that are hurting...so it is easy to get into people´s minds...
Cults are very dangerous...I know several churches that in my opinion are cults and the children that grow up there will never short of a miracle "fit" into a real church...
They grow up and do not learn how to think....someone does that for them.

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...
Can anyone explain why the victims were taken while the perpetrators remain?
Why did they not round up the men and then proceed with the investigation?

Unless the law requires they literally "remove" them from said situation... I dont know on that one.. that would be something nice for Sis Newman if she is able to address that one question?
