Leviticus 19:32,

Quote:
Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord.
Straight from the mouth of the Lord.

Proverbs 16:31,

Quote:
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
Brother Michael has ever been, in my view, on this board, "found in the way of righteousness". In my experience, his conduct has been superb (He didn't even take your bait and defend himself!).

So, unless you don't fear the Lord and so, don't care about honoring an elder, then maybe reconsider your approach?

1 Timothy 5:1,

Quote:
Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father...
To call an elder in the Lord out and tell him in front of everyone that his deovtional experience in worship was imagined is a poor intreatment. It's just not the way Christians should be talking to and about fellow believers who ought to be had in esteem.

I have seen this many times. After the praise team has sung, and the choir has given their song, sometimes the pastor just beginning to sing an old hymn or song, will bring in a sweet presence of the Lord, that all the musical talent and ability could not do.

Going back to congregational singing, where you can actually hear people's voices raised in praise to the Lord is a powerful thing, and should be considered by those who really desire the moving and presence of the Lord in the service.

There is no one easy way or formula to entertain the presence the Lord, but at the root of it all, should be heartfelt praise and worship, and His Spirit will move in that arena. If a show or performance is all that is happening, with no heartfelt worship within the hearts of either the leaders or congregants, then it will profit little.
My thoughts also ____more performance than involved worship.
As an "old" person my views are biased but I prefer the old hymns!
Choruses are ok but again.....prefer many of the older choruses.

I also agree with the comment that we (UPC) follow the "trends"......not usually the leader

I like MTD. But he's not my elder. Nice try quoting the OT. I can also copy and paste.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

There was no bait. People have emotional experiences and call it "God." Been there, done that.

It's a moral rule of God. Doesn't matter under what covenant it was issued.

I don't see the word "elder" in this passage.

Then why did you make it about him and not about you? You projected something you now admit to experiencing and shot it at him like it was he who had experienced it.

If he has never had such an experience, you are bearing false witness against a brother.

Either way, it was wrong.

Re: Do Any of You Still Sing Out Of The Songbook

There are too many people who attend my church to have books anymore, however, we have a couple of screens that have the words to any song we sing. I enjoy seeing words on the screen because I don't have to read out of a book to sing. I like looking forward and being free to worship instead of holding a book and looking down all the time.
