Re: Reasons a pastor would take a 3 month break

how does a pastor have less time to spend with family that he has to take 3months off than a father that works full time? Does he?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I know that where we live, a pharmacuetical company was sponsoring pastor's sabbaticals. All the church needed to do was find a replacement pastor for 6 months...one that would work well with the current pastor. And they also sent you to retreats, seminars, workshops and conferences during this sabbatical to recharge your batteries !

As for the pastor not going to that church, well, I can understand that. Now, I think 3 months is a long time, but again, we don't really know the whole story, so maybe there's more to this than meets the eye.
GA, my Brother in Law and family was awarded that grant this past year - though I thought it was three months, it was all expense paid to Europe and more.

He does not, especially if that father owns his own biz.

The problem I have with it is the three months. Like I said, Walt's been at his company for almost 25 years and still only gets 3 weeks vacation. Our pastor gets 4 weeks paid vacation after his FIRST year with us. And still he took an ADDITIONAL six weeks back in 2006 for a sabbatical? Plus he gets paid time off to go to conferences and other educational things. It all added up to another 5-6 weeks on top of the 10 weeks he already had taken that year.

Am I the only one who feels like that was excessive?
I agree that the Pastor should go to church somewhere, but I was raised by a man who didn't miss Sunday morning service for 45 years. It didn't have to be a pentecostal service if we were on vacation, but he went somewhere.

Yes,the time off seems excessive to me. We don't know all the extenuating circumstances. Again, I was raised old school. For the most part the only Sunday we missed service each year was for general conference. I don't think that's the best way either, probably somewhere in the middle is good.

lol No I don't. I just think as many times over the years I have seen him express this, that there is probably something in particular he would like to see happen.
