Yes but one has to wonder about what part of true doctrine really matters. Even in times past Trinitarians were not in such a disarray. True Doctrine ie, Oneness and Acts 2:38 and dress codes is not going to keep the world out. We have to be vigilant ourselves

It seems like we are all pretty much on the same page here. It really bothers me that what begain as ministries end up being about the celebrity or the person who says it's "My ministry"...it's scary and bothersome. I think this is the result of allowing the world to affect the church and a somewhat erroneous church model of government. The really scary thing is, when you become big, you don't have to worry about a church government. You can break free and be independent and still be larger than life, rich and powerful.

Right...apparently this was not new. Many kings were blinded by powerlust and it went to their head. Even David was overcome for a while.

This is why I believe #1, we need to pray earnestly for those who are over us.

#2 they too be accountable to others

#3 there needs to be some sort of oversight of finances

BTW I don't doubt this can be a worrisome thing in independent churches...having some sort of accountability to other leaders or elders and oversight, but this sort of thing sadly happens even when your church is not independent.

I know of churches that are not rich, not big, not growing, yet the paster has or takes WAY WAY too much power and authority and ends up being a sort of control freak. It's interesting the many pitfalls a church and pastor can fall into and it is bar far happening both in and out of the UPC and independent OP churches.

No offense, but I'm not surprised at all. Paula's become too big to remain with her husband.

Sad that they play it off as something normal...something to be accepted or expected.

The big winner - TBN. They made her the big name she is. Now without a marriage to mess with the scheduling, they can parade her on camera more often. In the process, TBN will also lower the bar by accepting divorce as status quo.
