If it wasn't true they couldn't say it on the news!! Let's wait until the smoke clears and then continue our gossip, sorry, I mean discussion. ;-) If you are not sure of the facts, it IS gossip. The bible doesn't say polygamy is wrong but it does say plenty about back biting. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in having more than one wife, I can't afford more than one.
As far as the Gov. coming in and taking our kids, the people in Ca. may find that if they insist on home schooling without proper credentials the CPA may just do something like that. Don't say it will never happen. We never thought Gays would ever gain the ground they have. When they do gain the right to marry and our pastors refuse to marry them, he may find himself in big trouble. I believe, if there is a problem in Texas there should be something done but let's not stop there, let's go after all the under aged mothers and fathers that the tax payer is paying for child day centers so the mother can finish school. If polygamy is wrong, let's go after the man who has children all over town and mothers who are drawing welfare for multiple kids who all have different last names.
By all means, don't believe every detail you hear on TV. We have former UPC even on here that say how terrible they have been treated by UPC and even in some cases refer to it as a cult.

Californians have already given away some of their rights in regards to children in the public school system.
Your daughter could get pregnant, get an abortion and you never find out.....but the school nurse does and it's legal. All because california voters either don't care or are just plain dumb

Do you suppose the CPS people involved in this case see any problem in 15-year-old girls having sex with teenage boys? Public schools encourage teen sex, or mildly discourage it and then hand the kids condoms with a wink.
Is the only problem here the age DIFFERENCE between the men and girls?

Kinda weird...it's rape if an older man has sex with a girl but it's ok if the guy is himself a teen....
We are now dealing with the Blue Lagoon generation.
The Teen guy wanted to "get in her pants" just as much as the older dude....

Actually, it's not okay. In our society, the only difference between these two is IF it gets reported. The difference with the teen guy (adult) is that a young girl (minor) is most likely a willing participant and wants him as much as he wants her, and rarely is a sex act between them reported. But if they ARE reported, you can bet the court will act in favor of the minor, and determine it to be rape. The adult will live with the label of 'child molester' for the rest of his life.

The generally accepted definition of a consensual crime is a criminal act committed by two or more people, who consent to involvement, and does not involve any nonconsenting individuals. The following is a list of criminal acts in various societies at various times and in different societies, where the issue of liability hinges on consent or the lack of it:
Statutory rape where the "underage" participant(s) give actual consent, but the law-makers of the relevant jurisdiction have determined that people of that age are not legally capable of giving informed consent.

I doubt there are many 13-16-year olds that would be willing participants with a man more than 10 years their senior, let alone 40.

Fixed.
It's annoying to see quote tags messed up.

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...
Flora Jessup and Jennie Larson has been helping girls escape these compounds for over 15 years now. Jennie has been out for years, but when she was in the age for marriage was around 12.
They are waiting to see what will come out of the dna testings. They believe that there are some children in this compound whose parents are in other states.
Another abuse is of the boys that they put out as young as 11 years old. They drop them off in neighboring communities with only the clothes on their back. Some of these boys have sodomized very young children after being left on their own with nowhere to go.
This isn't about a religion whose freedoms are being taken away. It is about abuse to children that will continue for the rest of their lives if not taken out and gotten some help.

Newman, have you read this thread? Thoughts?
Looks to me like there is much demand for children's advocates in Texas...

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...
I have been wondering if anyone knows approx. how many women (above 18 years old) and men (above 18 years old) that is actually in this compound? I have seen the same 10 or 12 women over and over in the pictures. None of them look to be more than in their mid 50's. This is not an old group of people. These are young adults (and yes I consider 50 youngish). I also have not seen any elderly men.
And does anyone know what the color dresses mean? Light purple, light blue, light aqua and then some dark black, dark blue? And all the ladies have their hair the same way. (Although their hair is thick and beautiful)
