Baron, I had to come back and say one more thing:
I personally find it hard to believe that the entire government is powerless to do anything significant about abortion...but let's say that I do accept that assertion. Then how much sense does it make to have what a politician says about abortion such a deciding factor in an election to the exclusion of so many other things.
I don't think it is the only issue but it is high on my priority list. If our government doesn't abide by our laws, even bad ones, then we are in a world of hurt. Changing bad laws takes time (e.g. Jim Crow laws) but that doesn't mean we shouldn't continue the fight to change them, over the opposition by the Dems. Funny it was the Dems who like the Jim Crow laws so much too.

The sovereignty of the mother's body. For the Government to force her to give birth is to essentially seize her body and force her to breed by law. While abortion isn't always the right thing to do...empowering Government to police what a woman does with her body will open the door to other Government intrusions. For example....if they can force a woman to give birth by force of Law....they can force her to microchip that child.
I'm not aware of the government making anyone get pregnant????

The mother, becoming pregnant, has to relinquish some of her rights. This child is still created by God in his image.
And by putting a child in a woman God entrusted that life to women. My mother used to say, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out." LOL The point is that women and children are not wards of the state. Right or wrong, the Government cannot essentially seize a woman's body and force her to give birth. Nor can it usurp the ultimate parental responsibility of balancing that child's wellfare and the mother's life and/or health.
This is something that is best left in the hands of individual women.
