Yes, I read it last year and I would recommend it. Thankfully, my assembly has some balance in this particular area, but the church at large needs to hear this message. I ordered from Amazon I think.

Michlow, I think God came as a man because not only was that the only culturally accepted manner he could have back then, it also reflects the different roles layed out for men and women in the Bible beyond culture.

Men are the priests of the house, etc. The role of men and women are not superior to one another but complement one another. They are very differerent though.
I can agree with most of what you have said here CC1. I can't understand the uproar. It's not like I think God is a woman, or female. I simply think that describing God as a man, male or masculine, is not telling the whole story. He is more than that. He is God, he is in many ways beyond our understanding. I have always considered him to be without gender. (agenderal...if that was a word). Or beyond gender. I think its just one of those things that you can't put in a box.

Why is God always refered to in masculine terms? why does it say the LORD is a man of war?

Why wouldn't he be? God chose to describe himself in terms the majority of which were masculine. He also chose the body of a male when he became flesh. I am certainly not denying that.

However, if you deny that God has any female characteristics, than how can females be made in the image of God. And if we are not made in the image of God, then we are less than men, and are rightly to be treated as such.

A few years ago when my wife and daughter were in Los Angeles an actress friend of ours invited them to go to church with her.

The church service started out normally but when it came time for the praise and worship a female song leader started leading songs in which every single reference to God was FEMININE. God was called "she" and "her".

My daughter was almost physically sick she had such a bad feeling in there. Never went back of course!

Last weekend my church had a father-son outing where they shot skeet, practiced archery, etc out in a rural area.

I remembered thinking yesterday at church when they were talking about what a great success it was that I was sure there had to be at least one or two libs in the audience having a duck as they talked about father and son's shooting shotguns together!!

BTW - Our praise and worship leader shot the most skeet!!!! 20 in a row and only stopped then because he ran out of ammo. Pretty good for a pretty boy musician,eh???

I agree, that would be sickening! And I really hope that everyone here gets that I am not suggesting that God is a woman, or should be referred to in the feminine. I am simply suggesting that God is bigger than our definitions of gender.

And to refer to him with anything other than male descriptions would go against how He himself chose to reveal himself to us.

I know what you are getting at. Just the fact that he taught us to turn the other cheek, continuously forgive, etc, are all examples that he does not fit the mould of the typical "macho" guy.

I think the macho thing in Pentecost is just one more reason so many preachers would rather emulate Old Testament Prophets and judges in their style of preaching and dealing with matters than the example Jesus gave in his earthly ministry.

Preachers who don't scream it and who are not crude and rude are many times labeled as "dead" or "not annointed".

Preaching "hard" almost becomes a sport with preachers trying to outdo each other and certain preachers becoming famous for how "hard" they hit a certain standard or another church or preacher they don't like.
