The inward man must stand out. We are to let our light shine for all mankind to see. At the same time as a child of God we are a peculiar people. Not only in the way we worship or believe, but the way we look and act. God did not intend for us to live as close to the edge of the world as we think we can or should.

If I am an Apostolic (oneness) person, yet I dress as the world dresses, how will they know I'm different. Yes, I relize one could say they will know it when you speak to them, but there are times when that never happens. We live in a time when people notice things that are different.

How many times has a person came up to you and ask are you Penecostal? Yes I am. I knew it by the way you were dressed or by your actions. I truely believe that we are to stand out in the world.

When I was growing up in the UPC, standards were preached a lot. Some I agree with others I don't. I do believe that the Lord will direct a person in the way they should go or follow. Just beware.

Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Re: Mens dress standards in the upc church

Many years ago, my 1st pastor told me I had to wear a suit.

I explained the only one I had was the one I was born with, did he want me to wear it?

After staring at me about a minute he laughed and told me to dress the best I could.

I saved for a suit to buy later.

I've heard this tired old argument for years, and I don't buy it. What witness are you really being by just showing someone you dress differently? I've NEVER known of anyone repenting and being filled with the Holy Ghost based on seeing someone who "looks Pentecostal." It is our WORDS and our ACTIONS that are our testimony and our witness. People will only care about our message when they know that we care about them. And they're not going to know we care about them by how we dress. JAXFAM6 made the perfect point when he pointed out that Jesus didn't dress differently than the world around Him. The impact He made was based on what He DID - not what He wore.
