I have talked with several twenty somethings, that really serve God, who had a tattoo before I knew them. They all said, it was just a thing...(in the sense of novelty)...and certainly not what has been presented here as some sexual, sensual, alterior motive declaration...

I believe them.
Sex is treated the same way today by many twentysomethings...

it's just a novelty...

I wonder how many of the twenty had the tattoo before serving God?

Finally, Thad, I might have agreed with you about tatoos 25 years ago; as being a mark of prison or gang affiliation. If that was the sole association of tatoos; I would find them wrong according to 1 Corinthians 11.

However, we are long past the day, where tatoos are only a part of the seamy side of life. Consequently, I find no condemnation in Scripture toward them; although I think that most people are going to regret the choice they made at some time in their future. Who would want to wear the same thing every day?
Sister Newman
Tattoos are still a part of gang life.I see them daily. Some of the guys I do labwork on are covered. The thing now it seems for the women are the property taitoos that they get put on their necks. So regardless they are still a part of gang life. The other group that tatoos are associated with are bikers. They love tatoos. Also military guys usually when they have gotten
good and drunk first love to get tattoos.Prison is full of homemade tattoos.
I was surprised by some of the everyday instruments these guys make tattoo
guns out of.If a person works in a office they are usually asked to wear sleeves to cover the tatoos.Tattoos can be a source of pride.
I am not about to embarress a new person about their tattoo. If they come to the Lord it does no good to try and get them to remove them.It is expensive.
I have known many people who worship God and have tattoos on the arms that are raised in worship.I have also known several women who have them on their faces and there is no getting rid of them.Especially the teardrops.

I didn't say there were twenty of them...there are several.

All of them were serving God when they got them...they have all lived good, clean lives. I know at least 5 of them were virgins when they got married with a tattoo...so to those whom i refer to, sex is and was considered sacred.

I pastored Ashley (sherri's daughter) for a while when she attended ORU...and I will attest to the consecration of this girl. She is no floozy and loves God. She too would not have gotten this tattoo with sensuality in mind because she does not carry that kind of spirit.

True...

But really our contemporary society doesn't even need hollywood to say something is vogue.

We have a generation coming up who have mom's with tattoos...just think, parents of today's 16 year olds graduated high school in the early 90's...this generation is being raised by the 80's and 90's youth....

These parents are much less traditional than ours are bro...a tattoo is nothing to these kids, because many of their parents have one. Don't need hollywood for those....

Hey I don't have one and I did not get saved until in the eighties.I have friends who got them. They thought it was neat to have butterflies on their
wrists and other things. These same women had to wear long sleeves for office jobs.People discriminate against people with tattoos. They are not
deemed conservative.

Sherry, I wouldn't worry too much about it... you might be more conservative, but we know that our children are not exactly as we are...but we still just love and appreciate them for who they are. I think those who are more open minded... risk takers and are more apt to express their feelings in tatoos. I would probably be heart broken if my daughters got one.... more because they will regret it later on.

Personally I can't stand tatoos...but I do know that this younger generation are facinated by them. When my girls have expressed thinking they are cool... I always tell my girls to look at their father's arms... talk to him... ask him if he regrets his tatoos... and he does. He told us just last month how stupid he was to scar his body with tatoos. My ex husband has several... some very scary.. some not so scary.... all done at low points in his life.

However... you never know what doors can be opened up with conversation from a tatoo. People find them interesting and ask about them when they are visable.

One of the most interesting tatoos that my ex has had done in the last 4 years is a star of David on his right hand. He says you will not believe the people who ask him if he is a Jew/Hebrew... he always answers that yes he is...Hebrew by adoption...and begin to explain why he is ... and I am sure they get a mini bible study... as only he can give.

Perhaps, but grown folks will do what grown folks want to do.

The girl prayed and felt it was best for her...so to that I say may God bless Ashley in all she does for Him!!
